. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .، ، . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .، ،

Amr bin Wahb, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once we were with Mughirah bin Shu’bah, may Allah be pleased with him, when someone asked him: "Other than Abu Bakr Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, has there been anyone else in this Ummah in whose leadership the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) performed prayer?" He replied: "Yes! Once we were on a journey with the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). In the morning, the Prophet (ﷺ) knocked on the door of my tent. I understood that the Prophet (ﷺ) wanted to go to relieve himself, so I went out with the Prophet (ﷺ) until we walked far away from the people. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) dismounted from his ride and went to relieve himself and disappeared from my sight. Now I could not see the Prophet (ﷺ). After a short while, the Prophet (ﷺ) returned and said, 'Mughirah! You also fulfill your need.' I said, 'I do not need to at this time.' The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, 'Do you have water?' I replied, 'Yes!' and went to bring the water skin that was hanging at the back of the saddle. I brought the water to the Prophet (ﷺ) and kept pouring water. The Prophet (ﷺ) first washed both hands thoroughly, then washed his face. After that, the Prophet (ﷺ) tried to roll up his sleeves, but the Syrian cloak that the Prophet (ﷺ) was wearing had tight sleeves, so they could not be rolled up. Therefore, the Prophet (ﷺ) took both hands out from underneath, washed his face and hands, wiped over the portion of his head equal to the forehead, wiped over his turban, and wiped over his leather socks, and then mounted his ride for the return. When we reached the people, the prayer had already started, and Abdur Rahman bin Awf, may Allah be pleased with him, had led one rak’ah and was in the second rak’ah. I was about to go and inform him, but the Prophet (ﷺ) stopped me, and we joined in the rak’ah that we caught, and whatever we missed, we completed (after the salam).

It is narrated from Mughira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "A group from my Ummah will always remain dominant over the people, until when Allah's command comes to them, they will still be dominant."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .، ،

It is narrated from Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) consulted the noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) regarding what should be done if a pregnant woman miscarries due to someone. Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) had decreed in such a case the payment of a slave man or slave woman. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "If what you say is correct, then present a witness who is aware of this hadith." Upon this, Muhammad bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) testified that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) had indeed given this ruling.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .، ،

It is narrated from Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I presented myself before the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and said, "I wish to marry such-and-such woman." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Go and look at her first, for this will increase love between you." So I went to a woman from the Ansar and sent a proposal to her parents and also conveyed the saying of the Prophet (ﷺ). Apparently, they did not like it, but the woman heard this from behind the veil and said, "If the Prophet (ﷺ) has ordered you to look, then you may look. If you do not do so, then I adjure you by Allah." She considered this matter very significant, so I looked at her and married her. Then he mentioned his agreement with her.

It is narrated from Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) that two women had a fight, and one of them killed the other by striking her with a tent pole. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) ruled that the blood money (diyah) should be paid by the male relatives ('asaba) of the killer, and for the loss of the unborn child in her womb, he ruled for a male or female slave as compensation. A Bedouin said, "You impose compensation on me for a life that neither ate nor drank, neither cried nor moved; such a life is usually overlooked." The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, "This is the kind of rhymed speech Bedouins use, but the ruling remains that for the loss of that child, the compensation is a male or female slave."

It is narrated from Mughira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Muawiya (may Allah be pleased with him) was written a letter—written by his scribe Waraad—that I heard the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) saying these words at the time of concluding the prayer: "There is no deity except Allah, He is One, He has no partner, sovereignty belongs to Him and all praise is for Him. O Allah! No one can withhold what You give, and no one can give what You withhold, and the status of any person of status cannot benefit him before You." Waraad says that after this, once I was present in the service of Muawiya (may Allah be pleased with him), and I heard him from the pulpit instructing people to say these words; he was teaching these words to the people.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .، ،

Ali bin Rabi’ah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that a certain Ansari named Qarta bin Ka’b passed away and wailing and lamentation began over him. Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) came out of his house, ascended the pulpit, and after praising and glorifying Allah, said: What is this wailing in Islam? I heard the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) say: Lying about me is not like lying about an ordinary person. Beware! Whoever deliberately lies about me should prepare his abode in Hell. Beware! I heard the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) say: The person over whom wailing is done is punished because of that wailing.

It is narrated from Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I assisted the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in performing ablution during a journey. The Prophet (ﷺ) washed his face and arms and wiped over his head and his leather socks. I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Should I not remove your socks?" The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, "No, I put them on while I was in a state of ablution, so I did not take them off after that." Then the Prophet (ﷺ) performed the Fajr prayer in this manner.

Aamir says that once, during the forenoon, there was a solar eclipse and the sky became extremely dark. Seeing this, Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and began to lead the people in prayer. He prolonged the standing (qiyam) so much that a surah from the "Mathani" could be recited in it, and he made the bowing (ruku) just as long. After raising his head from ruku, he again performed a bowing of equal length, then after raising his head, he stood for the same duration, and he performed the second rak’ah in the same manner. By that time, the sun had become bright again. Then he completed the prostration and prayer, ascended the pulpit, and said that on the day when the son of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ), Ibrahim, passed away, there was a solar eclipse, and the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) stood and delivered a sermon, saying: "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of anyone’s death; they are two of Allah’s signs. Therefore, whenever you see an eclipse of either of them, turn immediately to prayer." After this, he descended from the pulpit and narrated this hadith: When the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) was leading the eclipse prayer, during it he began to blow (as if to ward off something) in front of him, then he stretched out his hand as if he wanted to grasp something, and after completing the prayer, he said: "Hell was brought so close to me that I began to blow to ward off its heat from my face. I saw in Hell the man with a stick, the one who invented the custom of letting animals loose in the name of idols, and the Himyari woman who used to tie up a cat." The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

Upon returning, he performed ablution and this time wiped over his leather socks. I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! Perhaps you forgot that you did not remove your socks?" The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Absolutely not, you have forgotten. My Lord has commanded me to do this."

The second is wiping over leather socks (khuffs), because I have seen the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) wiping over leather socks.

Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) once wrote a letter to Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) asking him to write and send something that he had heard from the Noble Prophet (ﷺ). He replied that when the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) would finish the prayer, he used to say: There is no deity except Allah, He is One, He has no partner, sovereignty belongs to Him and all praise is for Him. O Allah! No one can withhold what You give, and no one can give what You withhold, and the status of any person of status cannot benefit him before You.

It is narrated from Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were with the Noble Prophet (ﷺ). The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) relieved himself, then I brought a vessel of water. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) began to roll up his sleeves with his arms, but the sleeves of the Syrian cloak which the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) was wearing were tight, so they could not be rolled up. Therefore, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) took both hands out from underneath, performed ablution, and wiped over the leather socks.

It is narrated from Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) went to relieve himself and I also went along carrying water. When the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) returned, I presented water to him and kept pouring it. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) washed his face. After that, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) began to roll up his sleeves from his arms, but the Syrian cloak that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) was wearing had tight sleeves, so they could not be rolled up. Therefore, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) took both hands out from underneath, and washed his face and hands, wiped his head to the extent of the forehead, wiped over his turban, and wiped over his leather socks, and mounted for the return. When we reached the people, the prayer had already started and Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) had led one rak’ah and was in the second rak’ah. I was about to go and inform him, but the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) stopped me, and we performed the rak’ah that we caught, and completed what we had missed (after the salam). After finishing the prayer, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, “You did well.” The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain.

Ziyad bin Alaqah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) led us in prayer. After leading two rak’ahs, he did not sit but stood up. The followers said “Subhan Allah,” but he gestured for them to stand up. When the prayer was finished, he said salam and performed two prostrations of forgetfulness (sujood as-sahw) and said that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) used to do the same with us.

Amr bin Wahb, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once we were with Mughira bin Shu’bah, may Allah be pleased with him, when someone asked him: “Other than Abu Bakr Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, has there been anyone else in this Ummah in whose leadership the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, performed prayer?” He replied: “Yes! Once we were on a journey with the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. In the morning, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, knocked on the door of my tent. I understood that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, wanted to go to relieve himself, so I set out with him. We kept walking until we were far from the people. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, dismounted from his ride and went to relieve himself and disappeared from my sight; I could no longer see the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. After a short while, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, returned and said, ‘Mughira! You also fulfill your need.’ I said, ‘I do not need to at this time.’ The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked, ‘Do you have water?’ I replied, ‘Yes!’ and went to bring the water skin that was hanging at the back of the saddle. I brought the water to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and kept pouring it. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, first washed both hands thoroughly, then washed his face. After that, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, tried to roll up his sleeves, but the Syrian cloak he was wearing had tight sleeves, so they could not be rolled up. Therefore, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, took both hands out from underneath, washed his face and hands, wiped his head up to the forehead, wiped over his turban, and wiped over his leather socks, and mounted his ride for the return. When we reached the people, the prayer had already started, and Abdur Rahman bin Awf, may Allah be pleased with him, had led one rak’ah and was in the second rak’ah. I was about to go and inform him, but the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stopped me, and we joined in the rak’ah that we caught, and completed what we had missed (after the salam). The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain.

It is narrated from Mughira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "A group from my Ummah will always continue to fight and prevail over the people, until when Allah's command comes to them, they will still be prevailing."

It is narrated from Mughira (may Allah be pleased with him) that regarding the Dajjal, as frequently as I have asked questions from the Noble Prophet (ﷺ), no one else has asked. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) once said: "He will not be able to harm you in any way." I submitted, "People say that he will have a river with him and such and such things as well." The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: "He is far more insignificant than that in the sight of Allah."

It is narrated from Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "If I see a strange man with my wife, I will strike his neck with a sword." When this statement reached the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), he said, "Are you amazed at Sa'd's sense of honor? By Allah! I am more possessive than all of you, and Allah is more possessive than I am. Because of this, He has made open and hidden indecencies unlawful. And there is no one more possessive than Allah, and there is no one who loves to accept excuses more than Allah. For this reason, Allah has promised Paradise." The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain. Ubaidullah Qawariyri (may Allah have mercy on him) says that there is no hadith harsher than this one in the view of the Jahmiyyah sect, that there is no one who loves to be praised more than Allah Almighty.

Abdullah ibn Ahmad said: 'Ubaydullah al-Qawariri narrated to us, Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, with his chain, the same exactly. Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said: 'Ubaydullah al-Qawariri said: There is no hadith more severe upon the Jahmiyyah than this hadith, his saying: "There is no person more beloved to Him for praise than Allah, Mighty and Majestic."

Mughira (may Allah be pleased with him) says that once I set out on a journey with the Noble Prophet (ﷺ). It is narrated from Mughira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I presented myself before the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) sensed the smell of garlic from my mouth and asked, "Who has eaten garlic?" I took the hand of the Prophet (ﷺ) and placed it inside my shirt, so the Prophet (ﷺ) realized that there were bandages tied on my chest. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "You are excused."

Amr bin Wahb, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once we were with Mughirah bin Shu’bah, may Allah be pleased with him, when someone asked him: “Other than Abu Bakr Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, has there been anyone else in this Ummah in whose leadership the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, has performed prayer?” He replied: “Yes! Once we were on a journey with the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. In the morning, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, knocked on the door of my tent. I understood that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, wanted to go to relieve himself, so I set out with him until we walked far away from the people. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, dismounted from his ride and went to relieve himself and disappeared from my sight. After a short while, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, returned and said: ‘Mughirah! You also fulfill your need.’ I said: ‘I do not need to at this time.’ The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked: ‘Do you have water?’ I replied: ‘Yes!’ and went to bring the water-skin that was hanging at the back of the saddle. I brought the water to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and kept pouring it. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, first washed both hands thoroughly, then washed his face. After that, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, tried to roll up his sleeves, but the Syrian cloak that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was wearing had tight sleeves, so they could not be rolled up. Therefore, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, took both hands out from underneath, washed his face and hands, wiped over the amount of his head equal to the forehead, wiped over his turban, and wiped over his leather socks, and then mounted his ride for the return. When we reached the people, the prayer had already started and Abdur Rahman bin Awf, may Allah be pleased with him, had led one rak’ah and was in the second rak’ah. I started to go and inform him, but the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stopped me, and we joined in the rak’ah that we caught, and whatever we missed, we completed after the salam.

It is narrated from Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were on a journey with the Noble Prophet (ﷺ). In the morning, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) knocked on the door of my tent. I understood that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) wanted to go to relieve himself, so I set out with the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) until we walked far away from the people. Then the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) dismounted from his ride and went to relieve himself and disappeared from my sight; now I could not see the Noble Prophet (ﷺ). After a little while, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) returned and said, “Do you have water?” I replied, “Yes!” and with that, I brought water to the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) and kept pouring it. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) first washed both hands thoroughly, then washed his face. After that, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) tried to roll up the sleeves of his arms, but the Syrian cloak that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) was wearing had tight sleeves, so they could not be rolled up. Therefore, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) took both hands out from underneath, washed his face and hands, wiped over the portion of his head equal to the forehead, wiped over his turban, and wiped over his leather socks, and then mounted his ride for the return. When we reached the people, the prayer had already started, and Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) had led one rak’ah and was in the second rak’ah. I started to go and inform him, but the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) stopped me, and we performed the rak’ah that we caught, and whatever was left, we completed it after the salam.

It is narrated from Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) dismounted from his ride and went away to relieve himself. After a short while, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) returned. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) asked, “Do you have water?” I brought water to the service of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) and kept pouring it. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) first washed both hands thoroughly, then washed his face. After that, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) began to roll up the sleeves from his arms, but the Syrian cloak that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) was wearing had tight sleeves, so they could not be rolled up. Therefore, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) took both hands out from underneath, and washed his face and hands, wiped over the amount of his head equal to the forehead, wiped over his turban, and wiped over his leather socks, and mounted for the return. It is narrated from Mughira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) sent me towards "Najran." The Christians there said to me, "You people recite this verse: 'O sister of Harun' (the people addressed Maryam (peace be upon her) in this way upon the miraculous birth of Isa without a father), whereas Musa (whose elder brother was Harun) passed away so long before Isa (so how could Maryam be his sister?)" When I returned, I mentioned this to the Holy Prophet (ﷺ). The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Why did you not reply to them that the people of old used to name their children after the Prophets and righteous people."

Ali bin Rabi’ah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) came out of his house and, after ascending the pulpit and praising Allah, said: “What is this wailing in Islam? In fact, an Ansari had passed away and there was wailing over him. I heard the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) say: ‘Lying upon me is not like lying upon an ordinary person. Beware! Whoever deliberately lies upon me should prepare his abode in Hell.’ I heard the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) say: ‘The person over whom wailing is done is punished because of that wailing.’”

It is narrated from Mughira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I presented myself in the service of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ). I had eaten garlic. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) had already performed one rak'ah. When the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) finished the prayer, I stood up to complete my missed rak'ah. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) noticed the smell of garlic from my mouth and said: Whoever eats this vegetable should not come near our mosque until its smell goes away. After completing my prayer, I presented myself before the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) and said, O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! I am excused, please hold my hand. I took the hand of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) and placed it inside my shirt, so the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) realized that there were bandages tied on my chest. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said: You are excused.

I do not wish to make the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) impure with it." I returned to the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) and related the whole matter. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Go back. If she has tanned the hide, then tanning is its purification." So I went back to the woman and mentioned this issue to her. She said, "By God! I have tanned it." So I took water from it and brought it to the Holy Prophet (ﷺ). That day, the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) was wearing a Syrian cloak, socks, and a turban. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) took his hands out from under the cloak because its sleeves were narrow, then performed ablution and wiped over the turban and socks.

After that, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) began to roll up his sleeves from his arms, but the Syrian cloak that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) was wearing had tight sleeves, so they could not be rolled up. Therefore, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) took both hands out from underneath and, after washing them, wiped over the leather socks.

The followers said “Subhan Allah,” but he gestured for them to stand up. When the prayer was finished, he said salam and performed two prostrations of forgetfulness (sujood as-sahw), and said that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) used to do the same with us.

Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) once wrote a letter to Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) asking him to write and send something that he had heard from the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). He replied that when the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) finished the prayer, he used to say: "There is no deity except Allah, He is One, He has no partner, sovereignty belongs to Him and all praise is for Him. O Allah! No one can withhold what You give, and no one can give what You withhold, and the status of any person of status cannot benefit him before You." And the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade excessive questioning, wasting wealth, burying daughters alive, disobeying mothers, and hoarding wealth.

The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) asked me, “Do you have water?” I replied, “Yes!” Then the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) dismounted from his ride and went away to relieve himself and disappeared from my sight; now I could not see the Noble Prophet (ﷺ). After a little while, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) returned, and I presented water to him and kept pouring it. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) first washed both hands thoroughly, then washed his face. After that, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) tried to roll up the sleeves of his garment, but the Syrian cloak that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) was wearing had tight sleeves, so they could not be rolled up. It is narrated from Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was a guest at the house of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) at night. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) ordered, so a thigh was roasted. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) took a knife and began to cut pieces from it and give them to me. During this, Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came to inform about the prayer. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) put the knife down from his hand and said, "May his hands be dusted, what happened to him?" Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that my mustache had grown long.
