musnad-ahmad/801 · Musnad Ahmad

Chapter 1

It is narrated from Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say: For every forty freely-grazing camels, one bint labun is obligatory, and according to this calculation of zakat, no camel should be separated individually. Whoever pays zakat himself with the intention of reward will receive its reward, and whoever does not pay zakat, we can forcibly collect it from him. The share of his camel is the decision of our Lord, and nothing from it is lawful for the family of Muhammad (ﷺ).

It is narrated from Muawiyah Bahzi (may Allah be pleased with him) that once his father or uncle said to the Prophet (ﷺ), "Why have my neighbors been seized?" The Prophet (ﷺ) turned away from his words. This happened twice. Then his father or uncle said, "By Allah! If you do this, people will think that you command something and then you yourself violate it." He kept speaking and I was dragging my sheet along as I was going, when the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "What was this man saying?" The people informed him that he was saying, "If you do this, people will think that you command something and then you yourself violate it." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Can people say such a thing? Even if I did so, its effect would be upon me, not upon them. Leave his neighbors."

It is narrated from Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: Allah does not accept the repentance of the person who, after accepting Islam, falls back into polytheism.

Even if I did this, its effect would be upon me, not upon them. Leave his neighbors alone."

It is narrated from Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say: If a person's paternal cousin asks him for an extra share of his wealth and he does not give it to him, then on the Day of Resurrection he will be turned into a bald snake.

It is narrated from Muawiyah Bahzi (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Woe to the person who tells lies to make people laugh. Woe to him, woe to him."

It is narrated from Muawiyah Bahzi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said to the Prophet (ﷺ): I had sworn so many times (opening the fingers of his hands he indicated the number) that I would not come to you, but now I have come, so tell me, with what has Allah sent you? The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Allah has sent me with Islam. He asked: What is Islam? The Prophet (ﷺ) said: To bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (ﷺ) is His servant and Messenger, and to establish prayer and pay zakat. These two things are supportive, and Allah does not accept the repentance of a person who, after accepting Islam, falls back into polytheism. I asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is the right of our wife upon us? The Prophet (ﷺ) said: When you eat, feed her; when you wear clothes, clothe her as well; do not strike her on the face; do not abuse her; and if you separate from her, do so only within the house. Then he said: All of you will be gathered here (he pointed towards Syria), some of you will be mounted, some on foot, and some on their faces. On the Day of Resurrection, when you are presented, a seal will be set upon your mouths, and the first thing to speak will be the thigh. And the Prophet (ﷺ) said: If a person’s cousin asks him for an extra share of his wealth and he does not give it, then before the judgment on the Day of Resurrection, he will be turned into a bald snake that will keep biting him. It is narrated from Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: In earlier times there was a man whom Allah had blessed with abundant wealth and children. Time passed, one era went and another came. When his death approached, he said to his children: O my children! What kind of father have I been to you? They said: The best father. He said: Will you obey me in one thing? They said: Yes. He said: Look, when I die, burn me in fire and keep me in the fire until I become coal, then crush that coal in a mortar (he indicated with his hand), then on a windy day, scatter my ashes in the sea. Perhaps in this way I will not meet Allah. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: By Allah! They did exactly that, but at that very moment he was in Allah’s grasp. Allah asked him: O son of Adam! What made you do this? He said: My Lord! Your fear. Allah, due to the blessing of that fear, forgave him.

And he said: "There is no mawla who comes to his mawla and asks him for some favor that he has, and he withholds it from him, except that Allah, the Exalted, will make for him a serpent that will bite him before the judgment." ‘Affan said: He means by mawla his cousin..

He said: He said: And he said: "A man from among those who were before you, Allah the Exalted granted him wealth and children, until one era passed and another came. When he was on his deathbed, he said to his children: 'What kind of father was I to you?' They said: 'The best father.' He said: 'Will you obey me, or shall I take my wealth from you? See, when I die, burn me until you leave me as charcoal, then crush me with the pestle,'" and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, moved his hands near his knees. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "So they did, by Allah," and the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did with his hand like this: "Then scatter me on a windy day, perhaps I will elude Allah." Thus said Affan, and Muhanna Abu Shibl narrated from Hammad: "I will elude Allah, so they did that, by Allah. Then he was standing in the grasp of Allah the Exalted, and He said: 'O son of Adam, what made you do what you did?' He said: 'Out of fear of You.' So Allah forgave him for that."

It is narrated from Muawiyah Bahzi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: On the Day of Resurrection, you will be in the form of a complete seventy nations, and you will be the last nation, and you will be the most honorable in the sight of Allah. The distance between the two gates of Paradise is forty years’ journey, but there will come a day when even there will be a crowd.

However, when you eat, feed her as well; when you dress, clothe her as well. Do not strike her on the face, do not abuse her, and if you separate from her, do so only within the house. How is it appropriate when you approach each other in a lawful manner?"

It is narrated from Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say: If a person’s paternal cousin asks him for an extra share of his wealth and he does not give it to him, then on the Day of Resurrection he will be turned into a bald snake.

It is narrated from Muawiyah (bin Hida) رضي الله عنه that I submitted: O Messenger of Allah! We are a people who ask each other for wealth (i.e., seek financial help). The Noble Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: A person should (only) ask when he is in (severe) need or when there is such discord/separation among the people that he is collecting wealth to end it and bring about reconciliation. Then, when he reaches (the required amount) or comes close to it, he should refrain (from asking).

It is narrated from Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I submitted in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, "O Messenger of Allah! How much of our private parts should we cover and how much can we leave uncovered?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Protect your private parts from everyone except your wife and your slave woman." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Some people have relatives who live with them?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "As much as possible, do not let them see your private parts, do not show them." I asked, "Sometimes one of us is alone?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Allah is more deserving that one should feel shy before Him."

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

Yunus narrated to us, from Hammad ibn Zayd, he also said: And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, gestured with his hand, and placed it on his private part.

It is narrated from Muawiyah Bahzi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said to the Prophet (ﷺ): I had sworn so many times (opening the fingers of his hands to count) that I would not come to you, but now I have come to you, so tell me, with what has Allah sent you? The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Allah has sent me with Islam. He asked: What is Islam? The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Say, "I have submitted myself before Allah and have become devoted to Him," and establish prayer and pay zakat, and remember! Every Muslim is honorable to another Muslim. These two things are supportive, and Allah does not accept the repentance of the one who, after accepting Islam or after leaving the polytheists and coming to the Muslims, falls into polytheism again. What is this matter that I am grabbing you by your waists and saving you from Hell? Remember! My Lord will inform me and ask me: "Did you convey My message to My servants?" And I will say: "O Lord! I conveyed Your message to them." Remember! Whoever among you is present: let him convey this to the absent. On the Day of Resurrection, when you will be presented, a seal will be set upon your mouths, and the first thing to speak will be your thigh. I asked: O Messenger of Allah! Is this our religion? The Prophet (ﷺ) said: This is your religion, and wherever you do a good deed, it will suffice for you.

It is narrated from Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: In earlier times there was a man whom Allah Almighty had blessed with abundant wealth and children. Time passed until one era ended and another began. When his death approached, he said to his children, "My children! How have I been as a father to you?" They replied, "The best father." He said, "Will you obey one request of mine now?" They said, "Yes!" He said, "Listen, when I die, burn me in fire and keep me in the fire until I become coal, then crush that coal in a mortar (he showed with a hand gesture), then on a windy day, scatter my ashes into the sea. Perhaps in this way I will not meet Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: By Allah! They did exactly as he had asked, but at that very moment he was in Allah's grasp. Allah asked him, "O son of Adam! What made you do this?" He replied, "My Lord! Your fear." Allah Almighty, due to the blessing of that fear, accepted his repentance.

It is narrated from Muawiyah Bahzi (may Allah be pleased with him) that once his father or uncle said to the Prophet (ﷺ), "Why have my neighbors been seized?" The Prophet (ﷺ) turned away from his statement. This happened twice. Then his father or uncle said, "By Allah! If you were to do so, people would think that you command something and then you yourself violate it." He kept speaking and I was dragging my sheet along as I went, when the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "What was this man saying?" The people informed him that he was saying, "If you were to do so, people would think that you command something and then you yourself violate it." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Can people say such a thing? Even if I did so, its effect would be upon me, not upon them. Release his neighbors."

However, when you eat, feed her as well; when you wear clothes, clothe her as well. Do not strike her on the face, do not abuse her, and if you sever relations, do so only within the house.
