Hadith of al-Irbad ibn Sariyah from the Prophet (peace be upon him)

حَدِيثُ الْعِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ (١) عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ١٧١٤١ - حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، وَوَكِيعٌ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنِ الْعِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَسْتَغْفِرُ لِلصَّفِّ الْمُقَدَّمِ ثَلَاثًا، وَلِلثَّانِي مَرَّةً " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Irbad bin Sariyah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would seek forgiveness three times for those in the first row and once for those in the second row.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ ضَمْرَةَ بْنِ حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو السُّلَمِيِّ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ الْعِرْبَاضَ بْنَ سَارِيَةَ، قَالَ: وَعَظَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَوْعِظَةً ذَرَفَتْ مِنْهَا الْعُيُونُ، وَوَجِلَتْ مِنْهَا الْقُلُوبُ، قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ هَذِهِ لَمَوْعِظَةُ مُوَدِّعٍ، فَمَاذَا تَعْهَدُ إِلَيْنَا؟ قَالَ: " قَدْ تَرَكْتُكُمْ عَلَى الْبَيْضَاءِ لَيْلُهَا كَنَهَارِهَا لَا يَزِيغُ عَنْهَا بَعْدِي إِلَّا هَالِكٌ، وَمَنْ يَعِشْ مِنْكُمْ، فَسَيَرَى اخْتِلَافًا كَثِيرًا، فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِمَا عَرَفْتُمْ مِنْ سُنَّتِي وَسُنَّةِ الْخُلَفَاءِ الرَّاشِدِينَ الْمَهْدِيِّينَ، وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالطَّاعَةِ، وَإِنْ (١) عَبْدًا حَبَشِيًّا عَضُّوا عَلَيْهَا بِالنَّوَاجِذِ، فَإِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُ كَالْجَمَلِ الْأَنِفِ (٢) حَيْثُمَا انْقِيدَ انْقَادَ " (٣)، ، . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .، ، . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .، ، . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .، ،

It is narrated from ‘Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave us such an admonition that people’s eyes began to weep and hearts began to tremble. We said: O Messenger of Allah! This admonition seems to us as if it is a farewell advice, so what do you enjoin upon us? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “I am leaving you upon a clear Shari‘ah, whose night and day are alike. Whoever deviates from it after me will be destroyed, and whoever among you lives will soon see many differences, so hold fast to my Sunnah that you know and the Sunnahs of the rightly guided Caliphs, and make obedience to the leader incumbent upon yourselves, even if he is an Abyssinian slave. Preserve these things well, for a Muslim is like an obedient camel, wherever he is led, he goes.”

حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْخَيَّاطُ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ سَيْفٍ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ أَبِي رُهْمٍ، عَنْ عِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ، قَالَ: دَعَانِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى السَّحُورِ، ، فِي رَمَضَانَ، فَقَالَ: " هَلُمَّ إِلَى هَذَا الْغِذَاءِ الْمُبَارَكِ " (١)، ،

It is narrated from Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) once invited me for sahur in the month of Ramadan and said: "Come for this blessed meal."

حَدَّثَنَا الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، عَنْ ثَوْرٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو السُّلَمِيِّ، عَنْ عِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ، قَالَ: صَلَّى لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْفَجْرَ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا، فَوَعَظَنَا مَوْعِظَةً بَلِيغَةً، ذَرَفَتْ لَهَا الْأَعْيُنُ (١) ، وَوَجِلَتْ مِنْهَا الْقُلُوبُ، قُلْنَا أَوْ قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، كَأَنَّ هَذِهِ مَوْعِظَةُ مُوَدِّعٍ، فَأَوْصِنَا. قَالَ: " أُوصِيكُمْ بِتَقْوَى اللهِ وَالسَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ وَإِنْ كَانَ عَبْدًا حَبَشِيًّا، فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ يَعِشْ مِنْكُمْ يَرَى بَعْدِي اخْتِلَافًا كَثِيرًا، فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِسُنَّتِي وَسُنَّةِ الْخُلَفَاءِ الرَّاشِدِينَ الْمَهْدِيِّينَ، وَعَضُّوا عَلَيْهَا بِالنَّوَاجِذِ، وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَمُحْدَثَاتِ الْأُمُورِ، فَإِنَّ كُلَّ مُحْدَثَةٍ بِدْعَةٌ، وَإِنَّ كُلَّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ " (٢)، ، . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .، ،

It is narrated from ‘Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (ﷺ) led us in the Fajr prayer, then turned towards us and gave such an admonition that people’s eyes began to weep and hearts began to tremble. We said, “O Messenger of Allah! This seems like a farewell admonition, so what do you enjoin upon us?” The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “I am leaving you upon a clear Shari‘ah, whose night and day are alike. Whoever deviates from it after me will be destroyed. And whoever among you lives (after me) will soon see many differences, so hold fast to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided Caliphs, and make it binding upon yourselves. And obey the leader, even if he is an Abyssinian slave. Hold on to these matters firmly, and beware of newly invented matters, for every newly invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance.”

حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَوْرُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَعْدَانَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو السُّلَمِيُّ، وَحُجْرُ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالَا: أَتَيْنَا الْعِرْبَاضَ بْنَ سَارِيَةَ وَهُوَ مِمَّنْ نَزَلَ فِيهِ {وَلَا عَلَى الَّذِينَ إِذَا مَا أَتَوْكَ لِتَحْمِلَهُمْ قُلْتَ لَا أَجِدُ مَا أَحْمِلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ} [التوبة: ٩٢] فَسَلَّمْنَا، وَقُلْنَا: أَتَيْنَاكَ زَائِرِينَ وَعَائِدِينَ وَمُقْتَبِسِينَ. فَقَالَ عِرْبَاضٌ: صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الصُّبْحَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا، فَوَعَظَنَا مَوْعِظَةً بَلِيغَةً ذَرَفَتْ مِنْهَا الْعُيُونُ، وَوَجِلَتْ مِنْهَا الْقُلُوبُ، فَقَالَ قَائِلٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، كَأَنَّ هَذِهِ مَوْعِظَةُ مُوَدِّعٍ، فَمَاذَا تَعْهَدُ إِلَيْنَا؟ فَقَالَ: " أُوصِيكُمْ بِتَقْوَى اللهِ، وَالسَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ (١) عَبْدًا حَبَشِيًّا، فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ يَعِشْ مِنْكُمْ بَعْدِي فَسَيَرَى اخْتِلَافًا كَثِيرًا، فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِسُنَّتِي وَسُنَّةِ الْخُلَفَاءِ الرَّاشِدِينَ الْمَهْدِيِّينَ، تَمَسَّكُوا بِهَا، وَعَضُّوا عَلَيْهَا بِالنَّوَاجِذِ، وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَمُحْدَثَاتِ الْأُمُورِ، فَإِنَّ كُلَّ مُحْدَثَةٍ (٢) بِدْعَةٌ، وَكُلَّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ " (٣)، ،

Abdur Rahman bin Amr and Hujr bin Hujr say that we came to Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) (about whom this verse was revealed): "There is no blame upon those who come to you so that you may mount them..." We greeted him with salam and said, "We have come to meet you, to visit you, and to benefit from you." He said: Once the Prophet (ﷺ) led us in the Fajr prayer, then turned to us and gave such an admonition that people's eyes began to weep and hearts began to tremble. We said, "O Messenger of Allah! This seems like a farewell admonition, so what do you enjoin upon us?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "I am leaving you upon a clear path, whose night and day are alike. Whoever deviates from it after me will be destroyed. And whoever among you lives (after me) will soon see many differences, so hold fast to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided Caliphs, and cling to it firmly. And make obedience to the leader obligatory upon yourselves, even if he is an Abyssinian slave. Hold on to these things firmly, and beware of newly invented matters, for every newly invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance."

حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ، حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ، حَدَّثَنِي بَحِيرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي بِلَالٍ، عَنْ عِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ، أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُمْ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعَظَهُمْ يَوْمًا بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْغَدَاةِ، فَذَكَرَهُ (١) ،، ،

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ الدَّسْتُوَائِيِّ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنْ ابْنِ (١) أَبِي بِلَالٍ، عَنِ الْعِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ، أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُمْ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعَظَهُمْ يَوْمًا بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْغَدَاةِ، فَذَكَرَهُ (٢)، ،

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ الدَّسْتُوَائِيِّ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنِ الْعِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ، أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُمْ " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَسْتَغْفِرُ لِلصَّفِّ الْمُقَدَّمِ ثَلَاثَ مِرَارٍ (١) ، وَلِلثَّانِي مَرَّةً " (٢)،

It is narrated from Irbadh bin Sariyah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would seek forgiveness three times for those in the first row and once for those in the second row.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْعِرْبَاضَ بْنَ سَارِيَةَ، قَالَ: بِعْتُ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَكْرًا، فَأَتَيْتُهُ أَتَقَاضَاهُ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، اقْضِنِي ثَمَنَ بَكْرِي. فَقَالَ: " أَجَلْ لَا أَقْضِيكَهَا (٣) إِلَّا لُجَيْنِيَّةً " (٤) قَالَ: فَقَضَانِي، فَأَحْسَنَ قَضَائِي. قَالَ: وَجَاءَهُ أَعْرَابِيٌّ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، اقْضِنِي بَكْرِي، فَأَعْطَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ جَمَلًا قَدْ أَسَنَّ، فَقَالَ: يَا، ، رَسُولَ اللهِ، هَذَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ بَكْرِي، قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّ خَيْرَ الْقَوْمِ خَيْرُهُمْ قَضَاءً " (١)،

It is narrated from ‘Irbaad bin Saariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I sold a young camel to the Prophet (ﷺ). After some time, I went to the Prophet (ﷺ) to demand the price and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Please pay me the price of my camel." The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Very well, I will give you its price in silver." Thus, the Prophet (ﷺ) paid its price in the best manner. Shortly after, a Bedouin came and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Please give me my camel." The Prophet (ﷺ) gave him a mature camel. He said: "O Messenger of Allah! This is much better than my camel." The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The best among people is the one who is best in payment."

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ الْكَلْبِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى بْنِ هِلَالٍ السُّلَمِيِّ، عَنْ عِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنِّي عَبْدُ اللهِ لَخَاتَمُ النَّبِيِّينَ، وَإِنَّ آدَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ لَمُنْجَدِلٌ (٢) فِي طِينَتِهِ، وَسَأُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِأَوَّلِ ذَلِكَ دَعْوَةُ أَبِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَبِشَارَةُ عِيسَى، ، بِي، وَرُؤْيَا أُمِّي الَّتِي رَأَتْ، وَكَذَلِكَ أُمَّهَاتُ النَّبِيِّينَ تَرَيْنَ " (١)، ، . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .، ،

It is narrated from ‘Irbad (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “I was Allah’s servant and the Seal of the Prophets even when Adam (peace be upon him) was still mingled in clay. And I will tell you about its beginning: I am the result of the supplication of my forefather, Ibrahim (peace be upon him), the glad tidings of ‘Isa (peace be upon him), and the dream of my mother which she saw—and the mothers of all the Prophets used to see such dreams.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَلَاءِ وَهُوَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سَوَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى بْنِ هِلَالٍ السُّلَمِيِّ، عَنْ عِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " إِنِّي عَبْدُ اللهِ خَاتَمُ النَّبِيِّينَ " (١) فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ. وَزَادَ فِيهِ: إِنَّ (٢) أُمَّ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأَتْ حِينَ وَضَعَتْهُ نُورًا أَضَاءَتْ مِنْهُ (٣) قُصُورُ الشَّامِ (٤)،

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain, however, in this there is also the addition that the mother of the Prophet (peace be upon him) saw a light at the time of the child's birth by which the palaces of Syria were illuminated.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ سَيْفٍ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ أَبِي رُهْمٍ، عَنِ الْعِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ السُّلَمِيِّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ، وَهُوَ يَدْعُو (١) إِلَى السَّحُورِ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ: " هَلُمَّ (٢) إِلَى الْغِدَاءِ الْمُبَارَكِ "، ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: " اللهُمَّ عَلِّمْ مُعَاوِيَةَ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِسَابَ وَقِهِ الْعَذَابَ " (٣)، ،

It is narrated from Abbas bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) once invited me for suhoor in the month of Ramadan, saying: "Come for this blessed meal." Then I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying: "O Allah! Grant Muawiyah the knowledge of reckoning and accounting, and protect him from punishment."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ، حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمُّ حَبِيبَةَ بِنْتُ الْعِرْبَاضِ، قَالَتْ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي: " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَرَّمَ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ كُلَّ ذِي مِخْلَبٍ مِنَ الطَّيْرِ، وَلُحُومَ الْحُمُرِ الْأَهْلِيَّةِ، وَالْخَلِيسَةَ، وَالْمُجَثَّمَةَ، وَأَنْ تُوطَأَ السَّبَايَا حَتَّى يَضَعْنَ مَا فِي بُطُونِهِنَّ " (١)، ،

It is narrated from Irbadh (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Khaybar, the Prophet (ﷺ) forbade eating every bird that hunts with its claws, the meat of domesticated donkeys, animals snatched from the mouths of beasts, animals targeted directly, and intercourse with slave women before they give birth.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمُّ حَبِيبَةَ بِنْتُ الْعِرْبَاضِ، عَنْ أَبِيهَا: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَأْخُذُ الْوَبَرَةَ مِنْ (١) فَيْءِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، فَيَقُولُ: " مَا لِي مِنْ هَذَا إِلَّا مِثْلَ مَا لِأَحَدِكُمْ إِلَّا الْخُمُسَ، وَهُوَ مَرْدُودٌ فِيكُمْ، فَأَدُّوا الْخَيْطَ وَالْمَخِيطَ فَمَا فَوْقَهُمَا، وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْغُلُولَ، فَإِنَّهُ عَارٌ وَشَنَارٌ عَلَى صَاحِبِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " (٢)، ، قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ: وَرَوَى سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَبِي سِنَانٍ، عَنْ وَهْبٍ، هَذَا (١) . قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: " عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ هِلَالٍ، هُوَ الصَّوَابُ "،

It is narrated from ‘Irbaad (may Allah be pleased with him) that sometimes the Prophet (ﷺ) would pick up a single hair from the spoils of war and say: “My share in this is equal to that of any one of you, except for the khums (one-fifth), and that too is returned to you. Therefore, if it is a thread, a needle, or even something less than that, return it, and avoid dishonesty in the spoils of war, for indeed it will be a cause of shame and regret for the dishonest person on the Day of Resurrection.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ وَهُوَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْمَدَائِنِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْعَوَّامِ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ شَرِيكٍ، عَنْ الْعِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ إِذَا سَقَى امْرَأَتَهُ مِنَ الْمَاءِ أُجِرَ " قَالَ: " فَأَتَيْتُهَا،، ، فَسَقَيْتُهَا، وَحَدَّثْتُهَا بِمَا (١) سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Irbadh (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: When a man gives water to his wife to drink, he is rewarded for it as well. So I went to my wife and gave her water to drink and narrated to her the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ، عَنْ يَحْيَى، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ (١) خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، حَدَّثَهُ، أَنَّ جُبَيْرَ بْنَ نُفَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَهُ، أَنَّ الْعِرْبَاضَ، حَدَّثَهُ - وَكَانَ الْعِرْبَاضُ بْنُ سَارِيَةَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الصُّفَّةِ - قَالَ: " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي عَلَى الصَّفِّ الْمُقَدَّمِ ثَلَاثًا، وَعَلَى الثَّانِي وَاحِدَةً " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Irbadh bin Sariyah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would seek forgiveness three times for those in the first row and once for those in the second row.

حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ، حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، حَدَّثَنَا بَحِيرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ، عَنِ الْعِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُصَلِّي عَلَى الصَّفِّ الْأَوَّلِ ثَلَاثًا، وَعَلَى الَّذِي يَلِيهِ وَاحِدَةً " (١)،

حَدَّثَنَا هَيْثَمُ بْنُ خَارِجَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَيَّاشٍ يَعْنِي إِسْمَاعِيلَ، عَنْ (٢) صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ، عَنِ الْعِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " قَالَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: الْمُتَحَابُّونَ بِجَلَالِي (٣) فِي ظِلِّ عَرْشِي يَوْمَ، ، لَا ظِلَّ إِلَّا ظِلِّي " (١) قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: " وَأَحْسَبُنِي قَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ، ، مِنْهُ " (١)،

It is narrated from Irbadh (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Allah Almighty says: Those who love one another for My glory will be under the shade of My Throne, on the Day when there will be no shade except My shade."

حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ يَزِيدَ الْحَضْرَمِيَّ، وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي بَحِيرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي بِلَالٍ، عَنْ عِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " يَخْتَصِمُ الشُّهَدَاءُ وَالْمُتَوَفَّوْنَ عَلَى فُرُشِهِمْ إِلَى رَبِّنَا عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي الَّذِينَ يُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنَ الطَّاعُونِ، فَيَقُولُ الشُّهَدَاءُ: إِخْوَانُنَا قُتِلُوا كَمَا قُتِلْنَا، وَيَقُولُ الْمُتَوَفَّوْنَ عَلَى فُرُشِهِمْ: إِخْوَانُنَا مَاتُوا عَلَى فُرُشِهِمْ كَمَا مِتْنَا عَلَى فُرُشِنَا (٢) ، فَيَقُولُ رَبُّنَا عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: انْظُرُوا إِلَى جِرَاحِهِمْ، فَإِنْ أَشْبَهَتْ جِرَاحُهُمْ جِرَاحَ الْمَقْتُولِينَ، فَإِنَّهُمْ مِنْهُمْ وَمَعَهُمْ، فَإِذَا جِرَاحُهُمْ قَدْ أَشْبَهَتْ جِرَاحَهُمْ " (٣)، ،

It is narrated from ‘Irbaad (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “There will be a dispute before the Lord of the worlds regarding those who died in the plague, between the martyrs and those who died a natural death. The martyrs will say: ‘These are our brothers and were martyred like us,’ and those who died a natural death will say: ‘These are our brothers and died on their beds like us.’ The Lord will say: ‘Look at their wounds; if their wounds are like the wounds of the martyrs, then they will be counted among the martyrs and will be with them.’ When it will be seen, their wounds will resemble the wounds of the martyrs.”

حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي بَحِيرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي بِلَالٍ، عَنْ عِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ، أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُمْ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ الْمُسَبِّحَاتِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرْقُدَ، وَقَالَ: " إِنَّ فِيهِنَّ آيَةً أَفْضَلُ مِنْ أَلْفِ آيَةٍ " (١)، ،

It is narrated from Irbad (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to recite the Surahs beginning with the word « سبحِ » before sleeping, and he used to say that there is one verse among them which is better than a thousand verses.

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ ضَمْضَمِ بْنِ زُرْعَةَ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ الْعِرْبَاضُ بْنُ سَارِيَةَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْرُجُ إِلَيْنَا (١) فِي الصُّفَّةِ وَعَلَيْنَا (٢) الْحَوْتَكِيَّةُ، فَيَقُولُ: " لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ مَا ذُخِرَ (٣) لَكُمْ مَا حَزِنْتُمْ عَلَى مَا زُوِيَ عَنْكُمْ، وَلَيُفْتَحَنَّ (٤) لَكُمْ فَارِسُ وَالرُّومُ " (٥)، ،

It is narrated from Irbad (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to us at Safa taking small steps, and said: If you knew what has been stored up for you, that the whole world will be gathered for you, and Persia and Rome will be conquered at your hands, then you would never be sad.

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ بَحِيرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ، عَنِ الْعِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ، قَالَ: " صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الصَّفِّ الْمُقَدَّمِ ثَلَاثًا، وَعَلَى الَّذِي يَلِيهِ وَاحِدَةً " (١)، ،

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ الْحَكَمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْعِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ السُّلَمِيِّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " إِنِّي عِنْدَ اللهِ فِي أُمِّ الْكِتَابِ لَخَاتَمُ النَّبِيِّينَ، وَإِنَّ آدَمَ لَمُنْجَدِلٌ (١) فِي طِينَتِهِ، وَسَأُنَبِّئُكُمْ (٢) بِتَأْوِيلِ ذَلِكَ، دَعْوَةِ أَبِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَبِشَارَةِ عِيسَى قَوْمَهُ، وَرُؤْيَا أُمِّي الَّتِي رَأَتْ أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ مِنْهَا نُورٌ أَضَاءَتْ لَهُ قُصُورُ الشَّامِ، وَكَذَلِكَ تَرَى أُمَّهَاتُ النَّبِيِّينَ صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِمْ " (٣)، ،

It is narrated from ‘Irbaad (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “I was Allah’s servant and the Seal of the Prophets even when Adam (peace be upon him) was still mingled in clay. And I will tell you about its beginning: I am the result of the supplication of my forefather Ibrahim (peace be upon him), the glad tidings of ‘Isa (peace be upon him), and the dream of my mother which she saw—that a light came forth from her which illuminated the palaces of Syria. And the mothers of all the Prophets saw dreams like this.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ بَحِيرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي بِلَالٍ، عَنِ الْعِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " يَخْتَصِمُ الشُّهَدَاءُ وَالْمُتَوَفَّوْنَ عَلَى فُرُشِهِمْ إِلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي الَّذِينَ مَاتُوا مِنَ الطَّاعُونِ، فَيَقُولُ الشُّهَدَاءُ: إِخْوَانُنَا قُتِلُوا، وَيَقُولُ الْمُتَوَفَّوْنَ عَلَى فُرُشِهِمْ: إِخْوَانُنَا مَاتُوا عَلَى فُرُشِهِمْ كَمَا مِتْنَا، فَيَقْضِي اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بَيْنَهُمْ: أَنْ انْظُرُوا إِلَى جِرَاحَاتِ الْمَطْعُونِينَ (١) ، فَإِنْ أَشْبَهَتْ جِرَاحَاتِ الشُّهَدَاءِ، فَهُمْ مِنْهُمْ، فَيَنْظُرُونَ إِلَى جِرَاحِ (٢) الْمَطْعُونِينَ، فَإِذَا هِيَ (٣) قَدْ أَشْبَهَتْ (٤) ، فَيُلْحَقُونَ مَعَهُمْ " (٥)، ،

It is narrated from ‘Irbaad (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “There will be a dispute before the Lord of the worlds regarding those who die in the plague, between the martyrs and those who die a natural death.
