Hadith of 'Umayr, the freed slave of Abi al-Lahm (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ عُمَيْرٍ مَوْلَى آبِي اللَّحْمِ (١)، ٢١٩٤٠ - حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عُمَيْرٌ، مَوْلَى آبِي اللَّحْمِ، قَالَ: شَهِدْتُ خَيْبَرَ مَعَ سَادَتِي، فَكَلَّمُوا فِيَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " فَأَمَرَنِي فَقُلِّدْتُ سَيْفًا، فَإِذَا أَنَا أَجُرُّهُ، فَأُخْبِرَ أَنِّي مَمْلُوكٌ فَأَمَرَ لِي بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ خُرْثِيِّ الْمَتَاعِ " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Umair (may Allah be pleased with him) that I participated in the Battle of Khaybar with my masters. They spoke to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) about me, so the Prophet (ﷺ) gave an order regarding me, and a sword was hung around my neck (it was so big that) I used to drag it on the ground as I walked. The Prophet (ﷺ) was informed that I was a slave, so the Prophet (ﷺ) ordered that I should also be given something from the remaining spoils.

حَدَّثَنَا رِبْعِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَخُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ ابْنِ عُلَيَّةَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ خَيْرًا (١) ، قَالَ: وَكَانَ يَفْضُلُ عَلَى إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ،، ، عَنْ عُمَيْرٍ مَوْلَى آبِي اللَّحْمِ، قَالَ: شَهِدْتُ مَعَ سَادَتِي خَيْبَرَ، فَأَمَرَ بِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلِّدْتُ سَيْفًا، فَإِذَا أَنَا أَجُرُّهُ قَالَ: فَقِيلَ لَهُ: إِنَّهُ عَبْدٌ مَمْلُوكٌ قَالَ: " فَأَمَرَ لِي بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ خُرْثِيِّ الْمَتَاعِ "، قَالَ: وَعَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِ رُقْيَةً كُنْتُ أَرْقِي بِهَا الْمَجَانِينَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، قَالَ: " اطْرَحْ مِنْهَا كَذَا وَكَذَا، وَارْقِ بِمَا بَقِيَ " (١) قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ: " وَأَدْرَكْتُهُ وَهُوَ يَرْقِي بِهَا الْمَجَانِينَ "،

It is narrated from Umair (may Allah be pleased with him) that I participated in the Battle of Khaybar with my masters. They spoke to the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) about me, so the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) gave a command regarding me, and a sword was hung around my neck (it was so big that) I used to drag it on the ground as I walked. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) was informed that I was a slave, so the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) ordered that I also be given something from the remaining spoils. And I presented before the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) an incantation with which I used to perform exorcism on the possessed during the time of ignorance. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: Remove such-and-such words from it and perform exorcism with the rest.

حَدَّثَنَا رِبْعِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ عَمِّهِ، وَعَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ، أَنَّهُمَا سَمِعَا عُمَيْرًا، مَوْلَى آبِي اللَّحْمِ، قَالَ: أَقْبَلْتُ مَعَ سَادَتِي، ، نُرِيدُ الْهِجْرَةَ حَتَّى إِذَا دَنَوْنَا مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ، قَالَ: فَدَخَلُوا الْمَدِينَةَ وَخَلَّفُونِي فِي ظُهُورِهِمْ، قَالَ: قَالَ: فَأَصَابَنِي مَجَاعَةٌ شَدِيدَةٌ، قَالَ: فَمَرَّ بِي بَعْضُ مَنْ يَخْرُجُ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ، فَقَالُوا لِي: لَوْ دَخَلْتَ الْمَدِينَةَ، فَأَصَبْتَ مِنْ ثَمَرِ حَوَائِطِهَا، فَدَخَلْتُ حَائِطًا فَقَطَعْتُ مِنْهُ قِنْوَيْنِ، فَأَتَانِي صَاحِبُ الْحَائِطِ، فَأَتَى بِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَخْبَرَهُ خَبَرِي، وَعَلَيَّ ثَوْبَانِ، فَقَالَ لِي: " أَيُّهُمَا أَفْضَلُ؟ " فَأَشَرْتُ لَهُ إِلَى أَحَدِهِمَا، فَقَالَ: " خُذْهُ " وَأَعْطِي صَاحِبَ الْحَائِطِ الْآخَرَ وَخَلَّى سَبِيلِي (١)، ،

It is narrated from Umair (may Allah be pleased with him) that I was coming with my master with the intention of migration. When we reached near Madinah Munawwarah, my master entered Madinah Munawwarah and left me by the mount. After a while, I was overcome by severe hunger. Meanwhile, a man coming from outside Madinah Munawwarah passed by me and said to me, "Go inside Madinah and pick some fruit from one of its gardens and eat." So I entered a garden and picked two bunches. In the meantime, the owner of the garden also arrived. He took me to the service of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) and told him my story. At that time, I was wearing two garments. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) asked me, "Which of these two is the better?" I pointed to one of the garments. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Keep this one for yourself and give the other garment to the owner of the garden," and then he let me go.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلَالٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ عُمَيْرٍ، مَوْلَى آبِي اللَّحْمِ، عَنْ آبِي اللَّحْمِ (١) : أَنَّهُ " رَأَى رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عِنْدَ أَحْجَارِ الزَّيْتِ يَسْتَسْقِي، وَهُوَ مُقْنِعٌ بِكَفَّيْهِ، يَدْعُو " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Umair (may Allah be pleased with him) that he saw the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) standing at a place called "Ahjar al-Zayt" (which is near the place of Zawra), making the supplication for rain (du'a istisqa). At that time, the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) had the inner sides of his palms facing towards his face.

حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَيْوَةُ: عَنِ ابْنِ الْهَادِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنْ عُمَيْرٍ، مَوْلَى آبِي اللَّحْمِ: أَنَّهُ " رَأَى رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْتَسْقِي عِنْدَ أَحْجَارِ الزَّيْتِ قَرِيبًا مِنَ الزَّوْرَاءِ قَائِمًا، يَدْعُو يَسْتَسْقِي رَافِعًا كَفَّيْهِ، لَا يُجَاوِزُ بِهِمَا رَأْسَهُ مُقْبِلٌ بِبَاطِنِ كَفَّيْهِ إِلَى وَجْهِهِ " (١)،

حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، وَ (٢) عُمَرَ بْنِ، ، مَالِكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْهَادِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عُمَيْرٍ مَوْلَى آبِي اللَّحْمِ: أَنَّهُ رَأَى رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ (١)، ،

Yazid ibn Harun and Ya'la narrated to us, they said: 'Abd al-Malik narrated to us from Abu al-Zubayr from Safwan. Yazid ibn 'Abd Allah said: and he mentioned it.
