Hadith of Abu Basir al-Abdi and his son Abd Allah ibn Abi Basir from Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ الْعَبْدِيِّ وَابْنهِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، ٢١٢٦٥ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، سَمِعْتُ أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ، يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الصُّبْحَ،، ، فَقَالَ " شَاهِدٌ فُلَانٌ؟ " فَقَالُوا: لَا. فَقَالَ: "شَاهِدٌ فُلَانٌ؟ " فَقَالُوا: لَا. فَقَالَ: "شَاهِدٌ فُلَانٌ " فَقَالُوا: لَا. فَقَالَ: "إِنَّ هَاتَيْنِ الصَّلَاتَيْنِ مِنْ أَثْقَلِ الصَّلَوَاتِ عَلَى الْمُنَافِقِينَ، وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِيهِمَا، لَأَتَوْهُمَا وَلَوْ حَبْوًا، وَالصَّفُّ الْمُقَدَّمُ عَلَى مِثْلِ صَفِّ الْمَلَائِكَةِ، وَلَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ فَضِيلَتَهُ، لَابْتَدَرْتُمُوهُ، وَصَلَاةُ الرَّجُلِ مَعَ الرَّجُلَ أَزْكَى مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ وَحْدَهُ وَصَلَاتُهُ مَعَ رَجُلَيْنِ (١) أَزْكَى مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ مَعَ رَجُلٍ، وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرَ فَهُوَ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللهِ " (٢)، ، . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .، ،

It is narrated from Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) led the Fajr prayer, and after the prayer, he asked, one by one, mentioning the names of some people, "Is such-and-such a person present?" Each time, the people replied, "No." The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "These two prayers (Isha and Fajr) are the heaviest upon the hypocrites. If they knew the reward for them, they would surely attend them, even if they had to come crawling. And the first row is like the row of angels; if you knew its virtue, you would compete to attain it. And a person's prayer with another is more virtuous than praying alone, and praying with two is more virtuous than praying with one, and as the number increases, it becomes more beloved in the sight of Allah."

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، قَالَ: صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْفَجْرَ، فَلَمَّا صَلَّى، قَالَ: "شَاهِدٌ فُلَانٌ؟ " فَسَكَتَ الْقَوْمُ، قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، وَلَمْ يَحْضُرْ. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "إِنَّ أَثْقَلَ الصَّلَاةِ عَلَى الْمُنَافِقِينَ صَلَاةُ الْعِشَاءِ وَالْفَجْرِ، وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِيهِمَا، لَأَتَوْهُمَا وَلَوْ حَبْوًا، وَإِنَّ الصَّفَّ الْأَوَّلَ عَلَى مِثْلِ صَفِّ الْمَلَائِكَةِ، وَلَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ فَضِيلَتَهُ لَابْتَدَرْتُمُوهُ، إِنَّ صَلَاتَكَ مَعَ رَجُلَيْنِ أَزْكَى مِنْ صَلَاتِكَ مَعَ رَجُلٍ، وَصَلَاتَكَ مَعَ رَجُلٍ أَزْكَى مِنْ صَلَاتِكَ وَحْدَكَ، وَمَا كَثُرَ فَهُوَ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللهِ " (١)، ، قَالَ وَكِيعٌ: عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ غَنْمِيٌّ:، •

It is narrated from Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) led the Fajr prayer, and after the prayer, he asked, one by one, mentioning the names of some people, "Is such-and-such a person present?" حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ: وَقَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْهُ، وَمِنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أُبَيَّ بْنَ كَعْبٍ، يَقُولُ: صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ يَوْمًا، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ. حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوْنٍ الزِّيَادِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ. Abdullah narrated to us, Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Abu Awn al-Ziyadi narrated to us, Abdul Wahid—meaning ibn Ziyad—narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Abu Ishaq, from Abdullah ibn Abi Basir, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he mentioned the hadith...

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ مُظَفَّرُ بْنُ مُدْرِكٍ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ، فَلَقِيتُ أُبَيَّ بْنَ كَعْبٍ، فَقُلْتُ: أَبَا الْمُنْذِرِ، حَدِّثْنِي أَعْجَبَ حَدِيثٍ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ. فَقَالَ: صَلَّى بِنَا أَوْ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الْغَدَاةِ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا بِوَجْهِهِ، فَقَالَ: "شَاهِدٌ فُلَانٌ " فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ. Abu Kamil Muzhaffar ibn Mudrik narrated to us, Zuhayr narrated to us, Abu Ishaq narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Abi Basir, from his father, who said: I came to al-Madina and met Ubayy ibn Ka'b, so I said, "Abu al-Mundhir, tell me the most amazing hadith you heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, led us (or led for us) the morning prayer, then turned to us with his face and said, "Is so-and-so present?" Then he mentioned the hadith...

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الله، مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ، فَلَقِيتُ أُبَيَّ بْنَ كَعْبٍ، فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ. (١)، •

Abdullah narrated to us, Yahya ibn Abdullah, the freed slave of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, Zuhayr narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Abdullah ibn Abi Basir, from his father, who said: I came to Al-Madina and met Ubayy ibn Ka'b, and he mentioned something similar to that...

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ الْعَبْدِيِّ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، قَالَ: صَلَّى نَبِيُّ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْغَدَاةَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: "شَاهِدٌ فُلَانٌ "، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ (٢)، ، •

Abdullah narrated to us, Shaiban ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Jarir ibn Hazim narrated to us, Abu Ishaq narrated to us, from Abu Basir al-Abdi, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, who said: The Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed the morning prayer, then said: "Is so-and-so present?" Then he mentioned the hadith.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَرْطَاةَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: "لَوْ يَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ مَا فِي الْعِشَاءِ وَصَلَاةِ الْغَدَاةِ مِنَ الْفَضْلِ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ، لَأَتَوْهُمَا وَلَوْ حَبْوًا " (١)، •

It is narrated from Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said: If people knew the reward of offering the Isha and Fajr prayers in congregation, they would surely participate in them even if they had to come crawling. It is narrated from Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) led the Fajr prayer, and after the prayer, he asked, mentioning some people by name one by one, "Is such and such a person present?" Each time, the people replied, "No." The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said: These two prayers (Isha and Fajr) are the heaviest on the hypocrites. If they knew their reward, they would surely participate in them even if they had to come crawling.... Then the narrator mentioned the entire hadith.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ، حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ الْبَزَّارُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، قَالَا (٢) : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ الْعَيْزَارِ بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ أُبَيٌّ: صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ، فَلَمَّا قَضَى الصَّلَاةَ، رَأَى مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَسْجِدِ قِلَّةً، فَقَالَ: "شَاهِدٌ فُلَانٌ؟ " قُلْنَا: نَعَمْ. حَتَّى عَدَّ ثَلَاثَةَ نَفَرٍ، فَقَالَ: "إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ صَلَاةٍ أَثْقَلُ عَلَى الْمُنَافِقِينَ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ، وَمِنْ صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ " وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ (٣)، ، •

Abdullah narrated to us, Khalaf ibn Hisham al-Bazzar and Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, they said: Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Ayzar ibn Hurayth, from Abu Basir, who said: Ubayy said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, led us in the dawn prayer, and when he finished the prayer, he saw that the people in the mosque were few, so he said: "Is so-and-so present?" We said: Yes, until he counted three men, then he said: "There is no prayer heavier upon the hypocrites than the last night prayer (Isha) and the dawn prayer," and he mentioned the rest of the hadith at length.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا حُبَابٌ (١) الْقُطَعِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، مِنْ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ، عَنْ أُبِيٍّ، قَالَ: صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ، فَلَمَّا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ، أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا بِوَجْهِهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: "إِنَّ أَثْقَلَ الصَّلَوَاتِ عَلَى الْمُنَافِقِينَ هَاتَانِ الصَّلَاتَانِ " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) led us in the Fajr prayer. After the prayer, turning towards us, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: "These two prayers (Isha and Fajr) are the heaviest upon the hypocrites."
