Chapter 1
It is narrated from Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the polytheists said to the Noble Prophet (ﷺ), "O Muhammad! Tell us the lineage of your Lord." Upon this, Allah Almighty revealed Surah Ikhlas: "Say, O Noble Prophet (ﷺ), He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Self-Sufficient. He neither begets nor is born, and there is none comparable to Him."

It is narrated from Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that during the blessed era of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ), there was once a solar eclipse. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) led the people in prayer, recited a long surah in it, performed five bowings (ruku') and two prostrations (sujood). Then in the second rak'ah, he stood and recited a long surah, performed five bowings and two prostrations. Then, as usual, he sat facing the qiblah and began to supplicate until the solar eclipse ended.

It is narrated from Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that during the caliphate of Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him), the Holy Qur'an was compiled in the form of manuscripts. Some individuals would write, and Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) would dictate to them. When they reached this verse of Surah Bara'ah: "Then they turned away, Allah turned their hearts..." other companions (may Allah be pleased with them) thought that these were the last verses revealed of the Holy Qur'an. But Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said to them that the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) had recited to him two more verses after this: "There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves; grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is] concerned over you and to the believers is kind and merciful. But if they turn away, [O Muhammad], say, 'Sufficient for me is Allah; there is no deity except Him. On Him I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne.'" And he said that these are the verses which were revealed last in the Holy Qur'an, and the conclusion of the Holy Qur'an was also upon those verses with which the revelation began, that is, in the name of Allah, besides whom there is no deity. Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) was referring to this verse: "And We did not send any messenger before you except that We revealed to him that there is no deity except Me, so worship Me."

It is narrated from Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the interpretation of this command of Allah Almighty: "And He is able to send upon you..." that these are four things, and all four are punishments, and all of them will certainly occur. Thus, two of them occurred only twenty-five years after the passing of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ): the Muslims were divided into different sects and began to taste the bitterness of fighting one another. And two remain, which will certainly take place: the swallowing up by the earth and the raining of stones from the sky.

It is narrated from Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of the Battle of Uhud, sixty-four from the Ansar and six from the Muhajirin were martyred. The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said that if after today there comes another opportunity to fight the polytheists, we will take revenge for this with interest. Accordingly, on the day of the conquest of Makkah, an unknown man said, "After today, the Quraysh will not remain." Upon this, the announcer of the Prophet (ﷺ) proclaimed that security is granted to every black and white except for such and such persons whose names the Prophet (ﷺ) mentioned. Then Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "If you want to take retribution, then inflict only as much punishment as you were afflicted with, but if you are patient, then patience is best for those who are patient." Upon this, the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "We will be patient and will not take revenge."

It is narrated from Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the interpretation of this verse: "When your Lord brought forth from the loins of Adam (peace be upon him) his progeny and made them bear witness against themselves," that Allah Almighty gathered all the progeny of Adam (peace be upon him), transferred them into spirits, then gave them forms, and granted them the power of speech, so they began to speak. Then Allah Almighty took a covenant from them and made them testify about themselves, saying: "Am I not your Lord?" And He said: "I make the seven heavens and the seven earths witnesses over you, and I make your father Adam a witness over you, so that on the Day of Resurrection you may not say, 'We had no knowledge of this.' Remember! There is no deity besides Me, there is no Lord besides Me, so do not associate anyone with Me. And I will continue to send My messengers to you, who will remind you of the covenant you made with Me, and I will send down My books upon you." All of them said in one voice: "We bear witness that You alone are our Lord and our God; there is no Lord for us besides You, and there is no deity for us besides You." Thus, they acknowledged this. Then Adam (peace be upon him) was raised above them so that he could see them all. He saw that among his progeny were the rich and the poor, the beautiful and the ugly. So he said: "O Lord! Why did You not make Your servants all alike?" Allah Almighty said: "I like that I should be thanked." Then Adam (peace be upon him) saw among them the Prophets (peace be upon them) shining like lamps, upon whom light was radiating, and from whom, in particular, a separate covenant regarding the office of Prophethood and Messengership was also taken. This is indicated in the verse: "And when We took from the Prophets their covenant". All this happened in the realm of spirits. Isa (peace be upon him) was also among them, and his spirit entered Maryam (peace be upon her) through her mouth.
