Chapter 1

It is narrated from Abi (may Allah be pleased with him) that a cousin of mine lived far from the Prophet’s Mosque. I said to him, “It would be better if you got a donkey or something similar.” He replied, “I do not like that my house should be adjacent to the house of Muhammad (ﷺ).” I had never heard a more unpleasant statement from his mouth, but then it became clear that what he meant was to attain the reward of walking from afar to the mosque. So they asked the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) about this, and the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, “He will receive a rank for every step.” It is narrated from Ubayy bin Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, “You will get what you intended.”

Narrated to us Ali ibn Ishaq, narrated to us Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak, informed us Asim al-Ahwal, from Abu Uthman, narrated to me Ubayy ibn Ka'b, he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Verily, you will have what you intended."

It is narrated from Abi (may Allah be pleased with him) that there was a man whose house was far from Masjid Nabawi. In my opinion, no one's house was farther than his. Someone said to him, "It would be good if you got a donkey or something similar." He replied, "I do not like that my house should be adjacent to the house of Muhammad (ﷺ)." I had never heard a more unpleasant sentence from his mouth than this, but then it became clear that his intention was to earn the reward of walking from afar towards the mosque. So they asked the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) about this, and the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "He will receive a rank for every step, and you will get what you intended."

Abu Uthman says that a man falsely attributed himself to someone, so Abi (may Allah be pleased with him) shamed him with reference to his father's private parts. People said to him, "You do not usually speak so openly?" He replied, "We have been commanded to do so."
