Hadith of Sahl ibn Sa'd from Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with them)

حَدِيثُ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، ٢١١٠٠ - حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ سَهْلٌ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ:، وَكَانَ قَدْ أَدْرَكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَهُوَ ابْنُ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ فِي زَمَانِهِ، حَدَّثَنِي أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ،: أَنَّ الْفُتْيَا الَّتِي كَانُوا يَقُولُونَ: "الْمَاءُ مِنَ الْمَاءِ رُخْصَةٌ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَخَّصَ بِهَا فِي أَوَّلِ الْإِسْلَامِ، ثُمَّ أَمَرَنَا بِالِاغْتِسَالِ بَعْدَهَا " (١)، ، . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .، ،

It is narrated from Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him), who met the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) and was fifteen years old during the blessed era of the Prophet (ﷺ), on the authority of Ubayy bin Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him), that the fatwa which people mention—that ghusl becomes obligatory upon ejaculation—was a concession that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) had given in the early days of Islam. Later, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) commanded us to perform ghusl.

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُبَارَكِ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، وَقَدْ أَدْرَكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ: أَنَّ الْفُتْيَا الَّتِي كَانُوا يُفْتُونَ بِهَا فِي قَوْلِهِمْ: "الْمَاءُ مِنَ الْمَاءِ، رُخْصَةٌ كَانَ أُرْخِصَ بِهَا فِي أَوَّلِ الْإِسْلَامِ، ثُمَّ أُمِرْنَا بِالِاغْتِسَالِ بَعْدَهَا " (١)،

حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ يُونُسَ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَهْلٍ، عَنْ أُبَيٍّ، نَحْوَهُ. قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ: وَأَخْبَرَنِي مَعْمَرٌ، بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ، نَحْوَهُ. (٢)، ،

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ، ، شِهَابٍ: قَالَ سَهْلُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، وَكَانَ قَدْ بَلَغَ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً حِينَ (١) تُوُفِّيَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسَمِعَ مِنْهُ،: أَخْبَرَنِي أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ، وَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ (٢)،

Muhammad ibn Bakr narrated to us, Ibn Jurayj informed us, he said: Ibn Shihab said, Sahl ibn Sa'd said—and he had reached fifteen years of age when the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, passed away and had heard from him—Ubayy ibn Ka'b informed me, and he mentioned something similar.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا رِشْدِينُ، حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، حَدَّثَنِي بَعْضُ مَنْ أَرْضَى، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، أَنَّ أُبَيًّا، حَدَّثَهُ: "أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَعَلَهَا رُخْصَةً لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ لِقِلَّةِ ثِيَابِهِمْ، ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْهَا بَعْدُ " يَعْنِي قَوْلَهُمْ: الْمَاءُ مِنَ الْمَاءِ (١)،

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنِي الْأَسْلَمِيُّ يَعْنِي عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَامِرٍ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي أَنَسٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُئِلَ عَنِ الْمَسْجِدِ الَّذِي، ، أُسِّسَ عَلَى التَّقْوَى؟ فَقَالَ: "هُوَ مَسْجِدِي " (١)،

It is narrated from Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him), with reference to Ubayy bin Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him), that a person asked about the mosque which was founded on piety, so the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said: It refers to my mosque.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَامِرٍ الْأَسْلَمِيُّ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي أَنَسٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: "الْمَسْجِدُ الَّذِي أُسِّسَ عَلَى التَّقْوَى: مَسْجِدِي هَذَا " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) with reference to Ubayy bin Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) that a person asked about the mosque which was founded on piety, so the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: It refers to my mosque.
