Hadith of Al-Jarud Al-‘Abdi (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ الْجَارُودِ الْعَبْدِيِّ (١)، ٢٠٧٥٤ - حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ الْجُرَيْرِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، قَالَ: حَدِيثَانِ بَلَغَانِي عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنِّي قَدْ صَدَّقْتُهُمَا، لَا أَدْرِي أَيُّهُمَا قَبْلَ صَاحِبِهِ؟ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْجَذْمِيُّ، جَذِيمَةُ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ، حَدَّثَنَا الْجَارُودُ، قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ وَفِي الظَّهْرِ قِلَّةٌ، إِذْ تَذَاكَرَ الْقَوْمُ الظَّهْرَ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَدْ عَلِمْتُ مَا يَكْفِينَا مِنَ الظَّهْرِ، فَقَالَ: " وَمَا يَكْفِينَا؟ " قُلْتُ: ذَوْدٌ نَأْتِي عَلَيْهِنَّ فِي جُرُفٍ فَنَسْتَمْتِعُ بِظُهُورِهِمْ، قَالَ: " لَا، ضَالَّةُ الْمُسْلِمُ حَرَقُ النَّارِ، فَلَا تَقْرَبَنَّهَا، ضَالَّةُ الْمُسْلِمِ حَرَقُ النَّارِ، فَلَا تَقْرَبَنَّهَا، ضَالَّةُ الْمُسْلِمِ حَرَقُ النَّارِ، فَلَا تَقْرَبَنَّهَا "، وَقَالَ فِي اللُّقَطَةِ: " الضَّالَّةُ تَجِدُهَا فَانْشُدَنَّهَا، وَلَا تَكْتُمْ، وَلَا تُغَيِّبْ، فَإِنْ عُرِفَتْ فَأَدِّهَا، وَإِلَّا فَمَالُ اللهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ " (٢)، ،

Mutarrif says that I have learned two hadiths from the Prophet (peace be upon him) regarding which I am certain that I am truthful in them, but I do not remember which of them is first. Abu Muslim narrated to us from Jarud that once we were on a journey with the Prophet (peace be upon him), there was a shortage of riding animals, and people were discussing the lack of mounts. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I think I know what can suffice us regarding mounts." The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked, "What is that?" I said, "We should go to the place of Juruf and get camels from there and benefit from riding them." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "No, a Muslim’s lost property is like a flame of fire; do not go near it. A Muslim’s lost property is like a flame of fire; do not even go near it." And regarding a lost and fallen thing, he said, "If you find it, announce it, do not hide it, and do not conceal it. If someone recognizes it, give it to him; otherwise, it is Allah’s property, and He gives it to whomever He wills."

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، وَأَحْمَدُ الْحَدَّادُ، (١) قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ،، ، عَنِ الْجَارُودِ الْعَبْدِيِّ، يَرْفَعُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " ضَالَّةُ الْمُسْلِمِ حَرَقُ النَّارِ، فَلَا تَقْرَبَنَّهَا " (١)،

It is narrated marfu'an from Jarood (may Allah be pleased with him) that the lost property of a Muslim is a flame of fire; do not even go near it.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ، عَنْ أَبِي مُسْلِمٍ الْجَذْمِيِّ،، ، عَنِ الْجَارُودِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " ضَالَّةُ الْمُسْلِمِ حَرَقُ النَّارِ " (١)،

It is narrated from Jarood (may Allah be pleased with him) that a lost item of a Muslim is like a flame of fire; do not go near it.

حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُثَنَّي بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ، عَنْ أَبِي مُسْلِمٍ الْجَذْمِيِّ، عَنِ الْجَارُودِ بْنِ مُعَلَّى الْعَبْدِيِّ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الضَّوَالِّ؟ فَقَالَ: " ضَالَّةُ الْمُسْلِمِ، حَرَقُ النَّارِ " (٢)، ،

حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجٌ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ، عَنْ أَبِي مُسْلِمٍ، عَنِ الْجَارُودِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " ضَالَّةُ الْمُسْلِمِ حَرَقُ النَّارِ " (١)،
