Hadith of Abdullah ibn Ukaim (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُكَيْمٍ (١)، ١٨٧٨٠ - حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، وَابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، قَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُكَيْمٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ قَالَ: " أَتَانَا كِتَابُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ، وَنَحْنُ بِأَرْضِ جُهَيْنَةَ، وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ شَابٌّ: أَنْ لَا تَنْتَفِعُوا مِنَ الْمَيْتَةِ بِإِهَابٍ، وَلَا عَصَبٍ " (١)، ، . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .، ،

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Ukeem (may Allah be pleased with him) that a letter from the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) reached us while we were residing in Juhainah, and I was a young man at that time, stating: Do not derive any benefit from the skin and tendons of a dead animal.

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ أَخِيهِ عِيسَى بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ: دَخَلْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُكَيْمٍ وَهُوَ مَرِيضٌ نَعُودُهُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ: لَوْ تَعَلَّقْتَ شَيْئًا، فَقَالَ: أَتَعَلَّقُ شَيْئًا، وَقَدْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "، ، مَنْ تَعَلَّقَ شَيْئًا وُكِلَ إِلَيْهِ " (١)، ،

Isa bin Abdur Rahman says that Abdullah bin Ukeem (may Allah be pleased with him) once fell ill. We went to visit him, and someone said, "Why don't you hang an amulet or something around your neck?" He replied, "Shall I hang anything? When the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) has said: Whoever hangs anything will be entrusted to that thing."

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ الثَّقَفِيُّ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُكَيْمٍ قَالَ: " كَتَبَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَبْلَ، ، وَفَاتِهِ بِشَهْرٍ: " أَنْ لَا تَنْتَفِعُوا مِنَ الْمَيْتَةِ بِإِهَابٍ، وَلَا عَصَبٍ " (١)،

حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبَّادٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُكَيْمٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ قَالَ: أَتَانَا كِتَابُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِأَرْضِ جُهَيْنَةَ، قَالَ: وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ شَابٌّ، قَبْلَ وَفَاتِهِ بِشَهْرٍ أَوْ شَهْرَيْنِ: " أَنْ لَا تَنْتَفِعُوا مِنَ الْمَيْتَةِ بِإِهَابٍ، وَلَا عَصَبٍ " (٢)،

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ هِلَالٍ،، ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُكَيْمٍ قَالَ: جَاءَنَا، أَوْ قَالَ كَتَبَ، إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " أَنْ لَا تَنْتَفِعُوا مِنَ الْمَيْتَةِ بِإِهَابٍ، وَلَا عَصَبٍ " (١)،

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ أَخِيهِ عِيسَى، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُكَيْمٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " مَنْ تَعَلَّقَ شَيْئًا وُكِلَ إِلَيْهِ أَوْ عَلَيْهِ " (٣)، ،

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Ukeem (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: Whoever hangs anything (as an amulet), he will be entrusted to that very thing.
