Hadith of al-Muttalib from the Prophet (peace be upon him)

حَدِيثُ الْمُطَّلِبِ (١) عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ١٧٥٢٣ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ رَبِّهِ بْنَ سَعِيدٍ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ أَبِي أَنَسٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نَافِعِ ابْنِ الْعَمْيَاءِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ الْمُطَّلِبِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " الصَّلَاةُ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، وَتَشَهَّدُ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَتَبَأَّسُ، وَتَمَسْكَنُ، وَتُقْنِعُ يَدَكَ وَتَقُولُ: اللهُمَّ اللهُمَّ، فَمَنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ، فَهِيَ خِدَاجٌ " وَقَالَ حَجَّاجٌ: " وَتُقْنِعُ يَدَيْكَ " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Mutlib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: (Nafl) prayer is performed in sets of two rak'ahs; after every two rak'ahs, recite the Tashahhud, express your needs and humility, and spread your hands and say, "O Allah! O Allah!" and make supplication. Whoever does not do so, his prayer is incomplete. The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ شُعْبَةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ رَبِّهِ بْنَ سَعِيدٍ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ أَبِي أَنَسٍ - مِنْ أَهْلِ مِصْرَ -، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نَافِعِ ابْنِ الْعَمْيَاءِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ الْمُطَّلِبِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " الصَّلَاةُ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى " فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ (١)، ،

Hajjaj narrated to us, he said: I heard Shu'bah say: I heard 'Abd Rabbihi ibn Sa'id narrating from Anas ibn Abi Anas from the people of Egypt, from 'Abdullah ibn Nafi' ibn al-'Amya', from 'Abdullah ibn al-Harith, from al-Muttalib, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: "The prayer is two by two." And he mentioned the like of it.

حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " الصَّلَاةُ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، تَشَهَّدُ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَتَضَرَّعُ، وَتَخَشَّعُ، وَتَسَاكَنُ، ثُمَّ تُقْنِعُ يَدَيْكَ - يَقُولُ: تَرْفَعُهُمَا - إِلَى رَبِّكَ مُسْتَقْبِلًا بِبُطُونِهِمَا وَجْهَكَ، وَتَقُولُ: يَا رَبِّ، يَا رَبِّ - ثَلَاثًا - فَمَنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ فَهِيَ خِدَاجٌ " (١) قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ: " هَذَا هُوَ عِنْدِي الصَّوَابُ "،

حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ، ، بْنُ عِيَاضٍ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي (١) أَنَسٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نَافِعِ بْنِ الْعَمْيَاءِ (٢) ، عَنْ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، وَإِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَتَشَهَّدْ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ لِيُلْحِفْ فِي الْمَسْأَلَةِ، ثُمَّ إِذَا دَعَا فَلْيَتَسَاكَنْ، وَلْيَتَبَاءَسْ، وَلْيَتَضَعَّفْ، فَمَنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ، فَذَاكَ الْخِدَاجُ أَوْ كَالْخِدَاجِ " (٣)،

حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَوْسٍ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، حَدَّثَهُ مُؤَذِّنُ النَّبِيِّ، صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: نَادَى مُنَادِي النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي يَوْمِ مَطَرٍ: " صَلُّوا (٤) فِي الرِّحَالِ " (٥)، ،

A person was informed by the Prophet’s (ﷺ) mu’adhdhin that one day it was raining, so the Prophet’s (ﷺ) caller announced: “O people! Pray in your tents.”

حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: شُعْبَةُ أَخْبَرَنِي عَنْ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي أَنَسٍ، مِنْ أَهْلِ مِصْرَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ الْمُطَّلِبِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " الصَّلَاةُ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، وَتَشَهَّدُ وَتُسَلِّمُ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَتَبَأَّسُ، وَتَمَسْكَنُ، وَتُقْنِعُ يَدَيْكَ وَتَقُولُ: اللهُمَّ اللهُمَّ، فَمَنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ فَهِيَ خِدَاجٌ " (١)،

حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي أَنَسٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نَافِعِ ابْنِ الْعَمْيَاءِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ الْمُطَّلِبِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " الصَّلَاةُ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، تَشَهَّدُ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَتَبَأَّسُ، وَتَمَسْكَنُ، وَتُقْنِعُ يَدَيْكَ وَتَقُولُ: اللهُمَّ اللهُمَّ، فَمَنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ فَهِيَ خِدَاجٌ " قَالَ شُعْبَةُ: " فَقُلْتُ: صَلَاتُهُ خِدَاجٌ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ. فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: مَا الْإِقْنَاعُ؟ فَبَسَطَ يَدَيْهِ كَأَنَّهُ يَدْعُو " (٢)، ،
