Hadith of Tariq ibn Ashyam al-Ashja'i, the father of Abu Malik (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ طَارِقِ بْنِ أَشْيَمَ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ أَبِي مَالِكٍ، ١٥٨٧٥ - حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ لِقَوْمٍ: " مَنْ وَحَّدَ اللهَ تَعَالَى، وَكَفَرَ بِمَا يُعْبَدُ مِنْ دُونِهِ، حَرُمَ مَالُهُ وَدَمُهُ، وَحِسَابُهُ عَلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " (١) " حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ يَزِيدُ بِوَاسِطٍ، وَبَغْدَادَ، قَالَ: سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ "،

It is narrated from Tariq that he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying to a certain people: Whoever acknowledges the oneness of Allah and rejects all false deities, his life and wealth become protected and worthy of respect, and his reckoning will be with Allah.

حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، بِبَغْدَادَ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ سَعْدُ بْنُ طَارِقٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " بِحَسْبِ أَصْحَابِي الْقَتْلُ " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Tariq that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: The testimony of my companions is sufficient.

حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: إِذَا أَتَاهُ الْإِنْسَانُ يَقُولُ: كَيْفَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَقُولُ حِينَ أَسْأَلُ رَبِّي؟ قَالَ: " قُلْ: اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي، وَارْحَمْنِي، وَاهْدِنِي، وَارْزُقْنِي - وَقَبَضَ أَصَابِعَهُ الْأَرْبَعَ إِلَّا الْإِبْهَامَ - فَإِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ يَجْمَعْنَ لَكَ دُنْيَاكَ وَآخِرَتَكَ " (١)، ،

It is narrated from Tariq that when a person would come to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and say, "O Messenger of Allah! When I supplicate to my Lord, what should I say?" the Prophet (peace be upon him) would say: "Say: O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, and provide for me." After that, he (peace be upon him) extended his thumb and folded the remaining four fingers, and said: "These things are comprehensive for both this world and the Hereafter."

قَالَ: وَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ لِلْقَوْمِ: " مَنْ وَحَّدَ اللهَ، وَكَفَرَ بِمَا يُعْبَدُ مِنْ دُونِهِ، حَرُمَ مَالُهُ، وَدَمُهُ، وَحِسَابُهُ عَلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " (١)،

It is narrated from Tariq that I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying to a people that whoever acknowledges the oneness of Allah and rejects other false deities, his life and wealth become protected and worthy of respect, and his reckoning will be with Allah.

حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي: يَا أَبَتِ (٢) إِنَّكَ قَدْ " صَلَّيْتَ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ "، وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرَ، وَعُثْمَانَ، وَعَلِيٍّ هَاهُنَا بِالْكُوفَةِ، قَرِيبًا (٣) مِنْ خَمْسِ سِنِينَ، أَكَانُوا يَقْنُتُونَ؟ قَالَ: أَيْ بُنَيَّ، مُحْدَثٌ (٤)، ،

Abu Malik says that I asked my father, Tariq, "Father, you have prayed behind the Prophet (ﷺ), behind Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and here in Kufa for about five years you have also prayed behind Ali. Did these gentlemen recite Qunoot?" He replied, "Son, this is a newly invented thing."

حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ خَلِيفَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَنْ رَآنِي فِي الْمَنَامِ فَقَدْ رَآنِي " (١)،

It is narrated from Tariq that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever sees me in a dream has indeed seen me.

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زِيَادٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ،، ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي طَارِقُ بْنُ أَشْيَمَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعَلِّمُ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ يَقُولُ: " اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي، وَارْحَمْنِي، وَارْزُقْنِي " وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: " هَؤُلَاءِ يَجْمَعْنَ لَكَ خَيْرَ الدُّنْيَا، وَالْآخِرَةِ " (١)،

It is narrated from Tariq that when a person would come to the Prophet (ﷺ) and accept Islam, the Prophet (ﷺ) would teach him this supplication: "O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me guidance, and provide for me." After that, he would say, "These things are comprehensive for both this world and the Hereafter."

حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ عِيسَى أَبُو بِشْرٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ الرَّاسِبِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبِي، وَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ: " كَانَ خِضَابُنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْوَرْسَ، وَالزَّعْفَرَانَ " (٢)، ،

Abu Malik says that I heard my father, in response to a question, say that during the time of the Prophet (ﷺ), we used to dye things with wars and saffron.
