حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " مَنْ جَرَّ إِزَارَهُ مِنَ الْخُيَلَاءِ، لَمْ يَنْظُرِ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِلَيْهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " (٣)، قَالَ زَيْدٌ: وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَآهُ وَعَلَيْهِ إِزَارٌ يَتَقَعْقَعُ - يَعْنِي جَدِيدًا - (٤) فَقَالَ: " مَنْ هَذَا؟ " فَقُلْتُ: أَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ فَقَالَ: " إِنْ كُنْتَ عَبْدَ اللهِ، فَارْفَعْ إِزَارَكَ " قَالَ: فَرَفَعْتُهُ، قَالَ: " زِدْ "، قَالَ: فَرَفَعْتُهُ، حَتَّى بَلَغَ نِصْفَ السَّاقِ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَى أَبِي، ، بَكْرٍ، فَقَالَ: " مَنْ جَرَّ ثَوْبَهُ مِنَ الْخُيَلَاءِ، لَمْ يَنْظُرِ اللهُ إِلَيْهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ "، فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: إِنَّهُ يَسْتَرْخِي إِزَارِي أَحْيَانًا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَسْتَ مِنْهُمْ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he heard the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) say: Whoever lets his lower garment hang below his ankles out of arrogance, Allah will not look at him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection. He (Ibn Umar) said: Once I was present in the court of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and my lower garment was hanging down. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) asked: Who is this? I replied: Abdullah bin Umar. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: "If you are Abdullah, then raise your lower garment." So I raised it up to the middle of my shins. Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) looked towards Abu Bakr and said: "Whoever drags his clothes on the ground out of arrogance, Allah will not look at him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection." Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sometimes one corner of my garment hangs down, although I try hard (to keep it up)? The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: "You are not among those who do this out of arrogance."
