Translation

English translation

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the year of the conquest of Makkah, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) instructed the people to break their fast, saying: "Gain strength for your enemy." However, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) himself kept the fast. The narrator says: I saw the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) at the place of 'Arj pouring water over his head due to thirst or heat. Meanwhile, someone informed that, "O Messenger of Allah! When the people saw you fasting, some of them also kept the fast." So, when the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) reached the place of Kudayd, he asked for a bowl of water, drank it, and the people also broke their fast.
