حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مُبَارَكٍ، عَنْ حَيْوَةَ، وَعَتَّابٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَيْوَةُ، عَنْ عُمَرَ (٢) بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْمَعَافِرِيِّ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ قَوْمِهِ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ: حَضَرَ ذَلِكَ عَامَ الْمَضِيقِ، أَنَّ عُبَادَةَ بْنَ الصَّامِتِ أَخْبَرَ مُعَاوِيَةَ حِينَ سَأَلَهُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ: الَّذِي سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عِقَالًا قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقْسِمَ. فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " اتْرُكْهُ حَتَّى يُقْسَمَ، وَقَالَ عَتَّابٌ: حَتَّى نَقْسِمَ، ثُمَّ إِنْ شِئْتَ أَعْطَيْنَاكَ عِقَالًا، وَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَعْطَيْنَاكَ مِرَارًا (٣) " (٤)،
Translation
English translation
Once, Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) about the man who had asked the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) for a rope before the distribution of the spoils of war. Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied that the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "Leave this request for now until the spoils of war are distributed. Then, if you wish, you will be given the rope, and if you wish, you will be given many times more than that."
