حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ غُلَامٌ، فَسَمَّاهُ الْقَاسِمَ، فَقَالَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ: وَاللهِ لَا نُكَنِّيكَ بِهِ أَبَدًا، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَثْنَى عَلَى الْأَنْصَارِ خَيْرًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي، وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا (١) بِكُنْيَتِي " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a child was born to an Ansari. He wanted to name him Qasim, but the Ansar said, "By Allah, we will not call you by this kunyah (patronymic)." When the Prophet (ﷺ) came to know of this, he said, "The Ansar have done well. Name yourselves after my name, but do not take my kunyah."
