Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we set out with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with the intention of performing Hajj. We reached Makkah Mukarramah on the 4th of Dhul-Hijjah. We performed the Tawaf of the House of Allah, prayed two rak‘ahs of Tawaf, and performed Sa‘i between Safa and Marwah. According to the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), we had our hair shortened. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Become halal (come out of the state of Ihram)." We asked: "O Messenger of Allah! How?" He said: "Just as perfume becomes halal for a non-Muhrim woman." So the people secluded themselves with their wives and started applying perfume. Some people began to say that we had set out only with the intention of Hajj, and we had no other intention besides Hajj. When there were four days left between us and ‘Arafat, this command came, meaning that when we set out towards ‘Arafat, drops of impurity would be dripping from our private parts. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to know of this, he delivered a sermon and said that ‘Umrah has been included in Hajj. If this matter had come to me earlier, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal with me, and if I did not have the Hadi (sacrificial animal) with me, I too would have become halal. Therefore, whoever does not have the Hadi should become halal. Learn the rites of Hajj from me. Then he allowed the people to remain in the state of non-Ihram until the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah, when the order to proceed to Mina was given, and they donned the Ihram for Hajj. On this journey, whoever had the Hadi with him, sacrifice was obligatory upon him, and whoever did not have it, fasting was obligatory upon him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) included seven people in one camel and one cow. And remember that for Hajj and ‘Umrah, they performed the Tawaf of the House of Allah only once, and the Sa‘i between Safa and Marwah only once.
