Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ وَسُرَيْجَ، وَعَفَّانُ، قَالَوا: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، قَالَ عَفَّانُ فِي حَدِيثِهِ: أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ: " ذَبَحْنَا يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ الْخَيْلَ، وَالْبِغَالَ، وَالْحَمِيرَ، فَنَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْبِغَالِ، وَالْحَمِيرِ، وَلَمْ يَنْهَنَا عَنِ الْخَيْلِ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that during the time of the Battle of Khaybar, we ate the meat of horses, mules, and donkeys. The Prophet (ﷺ) forbade us from (eating) mules and domesticated donkeys, but he did not forbid (eating) horses.
