Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, that a man passed away. We gave him a bath, applied perfume, dressed him in a shroud, and brought him to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, for the funeral prayer. After walking a few steps, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked whether he had any debt. The people informed him that he owed two dinars. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, turned back. Abu Qatadah took responsibility for his debt upon himself. We presented ourselves before the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Abu Qatadah said: O Messenger of Allah! His debt is upon me. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The right of the debtor is now upon you, and the deceased is free from it. He replied: Yes. Upon this, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, led his funeral prayer. Then, after a day had passed, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked him about the two dinars. He replied: He only died yesterday. In any case, the next day when he presented himself before the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, he said: I have paid his debt. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Now his body has cooled.
