حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ فِي سَفَرٍ، فَرَأَى رَجُلًا عَلَيْهِ زِحَامٌ قَدْ ظُلِّلَ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: " مَا هَذَا؟ " قَالُوا: صَائِمٌ، قَالَ: " لَيْسَ مِنَ الْبِرِّ الصِّيَامُ - أَوِ الْبِرَّ الصَّائِمُ (١) - فِي السَّفَرِ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (ﷺ) was on a journey. On the way, he saw that people had gathered around a man and were shading him. Upon asking, the people informed that he was fasting. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Fasting while on a journey is not an act of righteousness.
