Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, we used to inform the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about people who were near death. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would go to them, supplicate for their forgiveness, and remain seated with them until they passed away, which sometimes took a very long time and caused hardship for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Eventually, we thought that it would be easier for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) if we did not inform him before someone died. Thus, after that, we adopted the practice that when any one of us passed away, only then would we inform the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would come to the family of the deceased, supplicate for their forgiveness, and lead their funeral prayer. Then, if he deemed it appropriate to stay, he would stay; otherwise, he would return. For some time, we continued to act upon this second practice. Then we thought that it would be easier for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) if we brought the funeral near the house of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) without specifying or identifying it. So, we started doing this, and this practice has continued up to now.
