About what are they asking one another?

عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
1
ʿamma yatasāalūna
— Transliteration
About what are they asking one another?
— Saheeh International
عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
2
ʿani l-naba-i l-ʿaẓīmi
— Transliteration
About the great news -
— Saheeh International
ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ
3
alladhī hum fīhi mukh'talifūna
— Transliteration
That over which they are in disagreement.
— Saheeh International
كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ
4
kallā sayaʿlamūna
— Transliteration
No! They are going to know.
— Saheeh International
ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ
5
thumma kallā sayaʿlamūna
— Transliteration
Then, no! They are going to know.
— Saheeh International
أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَٰدًا
6
alam najʿali l-arḍa mihādan
— Transliteration
Have We not made the earth a resting place?
— Saheeh International
وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا
7
wal-jibāla awtādan
— Transliteration
And the mountains as stakes?
— Saheeh International
وَخَلَقْنَٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا
8
wakhalaqnākum azwājan
— Transliteration
And We created you in pairs
— Saheeh International
وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا
9
wajaʿalnā nawmakum subātan
— Transliteration
And made your sleep [a means for] rest
— Saheeh International
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا
10
wajaʿalnā al-layla libāsan
— Transliteration
And made the night as clothing
— Saheeh International
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا
11
wajaʿalnā l-nahāra maʿāshan
— Transliteration
And made the day for livelihood
— Saheeh International
وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا
12
wabanaynā fawqakum sabʿan shidādan
— Transliteration
And constructed above you seven strong [heavens]
— Saheeh International
وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا
13
wajaʿalnā sirājan wahhājan
— Transliteration
And made [therein] a burning lamp
— Saheeh International
وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا
14
wa-anzalnā mina l-muʿ'ṣirāti māan thajjājan
— Transliteration
And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water
— Saheeh International
لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا
15
linukh'rija bihi ḥabban wanabātan
— Transliteration
That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation
— Saheeh International
وَجَنَّٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا
16
wajannātin alfāfan
— Transliteration
And gardens of entwined growth.
— Saheeh International
إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَٰتًا
17
inna yawma l-faṣli kāna mīqātan
— Transliteration
Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time -
— Saheeh International
يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا
18
yawma yunfakhu fī l-ṣūri fatatūna afwājan
— Transliteration
The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes
— Saheeh International
وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًا
19
wafutiḥati l-samāu fakānat abwāban
— Transliteration
And the heaven is opened and will become gateways
— Saheeh International
وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا
20
wasuyyirati l-jibālu fakānat sarāban
— Transliteration
And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage.
— Saheeh International
إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا
21
inna jahannama kānat mir'ṣādan
— Transliteration
Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait
— Saheeh International
لِّلطَّٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًا
22
lilṭṭāghīna maāban
— Transliteration
For the transgressors, a place of return,
— Saheeh International
لَّٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًا
23
lābithīna fīhā aḥqāban
— Transliteration
In which they will remain for ages [unending].
— Saheeh International
لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا
24
lā yadhūqūna fīhā bardan walā sharāban
— Transliteration
They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink
— Saheeh International
إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا
25
illā ḥamīman waghassāqan
— Transliteration
Except scalding water and [foul] purulence -
— Saheeh International
جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا
26
jazāan wifāqan
— Transliteration
An appropriate recompense.
— Saheeh International
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا
27
innahum kānū lā yarjūna ḥisāban
— Transliteration
Indeed, they were not expecting an account
— Saheeh International
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا
28
wakadhabū biāyātinā kidhāban
— Transliteration
And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial.
— Saheeh International
وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَٰهُ كِتَٰبًا
29
wakulla shayin aḥṣaynāhu kitāban
— Transliteration
But all things We have enumerated in writing.
— Saheeh International
فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا
30
fadhūqū falan nazīdakum illā ʿadhāban
— Transliteration
"So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment."
— Saheeh International
إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا
31
inna lil'muttaqīna mafāzan
— Transliteration
Indeed, for the righteous is attainment -
— Saheeh International
حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَٰبًا
32
ḥadāiqa wa-aʿnāban
— Transliteration
Gardens and grapevines
— Saheeh International
وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا
33
wakawāʿiba atrāban
— Transliteration
And full-breasted [companions] of equal age
— Saheeh International
وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا
34
wakasan dihāqan
— Transliteration
And a full cup.
— Saheeh International
لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًا
35
lā yasmaʿūna fīhā laghwan walā kidhāban
— Transliteration
No ill speech will they hear therein or any falsehood -
— Saheeh International
جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا
36
jazāan min rabbika ʿaṭāan ḥisāban
— Transliteration
[As] reward from your Lord, [a generous] gift [made due by] account,
— Saheeh International
رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا
37
rabbi l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wamā baynahumā l-raḥmāni lā yamlikūna min'hu khiṭāban
— Transliteration
[From] the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Most Merciful. They possess not from Him [authority for] speech.
— Saheeh International
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا
38
yawma yaqūmu l-rūḥu wal-malāikatu ṣaffan lā yatakallamūna illā man adhina lahu l-raḥmānu waqāla ṣawāban
— Transliteration
The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct.
— Saheeh International
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا
39
dhālika l-yawmu l-ḥaqu faman shāa ittakhadha ilā rabbihi maāban
— Transliteration
That is the True Day; so he who wills may take to his Lord a [way of] return.
— Saheeh International
إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَٰكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا
40
innā andharnākum ʿadhāban qarīban yawma yanẓuru l-maru mā qaddamat yadāhu wayaqūlu l-kāfiru yālaytanī kuntu turāban
— Transliteration
Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish that I were dust!"
