الٓر ۚ تِلْكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَقُرْءَانٍ مُّبِينٍ
1
alif-lam-ra til'ka āyātu l-kitābi waqur'ānin mubīnin
— Transliteration
Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an.
— Saheeh International

Surah 15 · 99 verses

15 130
127
الٓر ۚ تِلْكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَقُرْءَانٍ مُّبِينٍ
1
alif-lam-ra til'ka āyātu l-kitābi waqur'ānin mubīnin
— Transliteration
Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an.
— Saheeh International
رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ مُسْلِمِينَ
2
rubamā yawaddu alladhīna kafarū law kānū mus'limīna
— Transliteration
Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims.
— Saheeh International
ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا۟ وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ وَيُلْهِهِمُ ٱلْأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ
3
dharhum yakulū wayatamattaʿū wayul'hihimu l-amalu fasawfa yaʿlamūna
— Transliteration
Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know.
— Saheeh International
وَمَآ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌ مَّعْلُومٌ
4
wamā ahlaknā min qaryatin illā walahā kitābun maʿlūmun
— Transliteration
And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree.
— Saheeh International
مَّا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ
5
mā tasbiqu min ummatin ajalahā wamā yastakhirūna
— Transliteration
No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter.
— Saheeh International
وَقَالُوا۟ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِى نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجْنُونٌ
6
waqālū yāayyuhā alladhī nuzzila ʿalayhi l-dhik'ru innaka lamajnūnun
— Transliteration
And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad.
— Saheeh International
لَّوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا بِٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ
7
law mā tatīnā bil-malāikati in kunta mina l-ṣādiqīna
— Transliteration
Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?"
— Saheeh International
مَا نُنَزِّلُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوٓا۟ إِذًا مُّنظَرِينَ
8
mā nunazzilu l-malāikata illā bil-ḥaqi wamā kānū idhan munẓarīna
— Transliteration
We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved.
— Saheeh International
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَٰفِظُونَ
9
innā naḥnu nazzalnā l-dhik'ra wa-innā lahu laḥāfiẓūna
— Transliteration
Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian.
— Saheeh International
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِى شِيَعِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
10
walaqad arsalnā min qablika fī shiyaʿi l-awalīna
— Transliteration
And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples.
— Saheeh International
وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
11
wamā yatīhim min rasūlin illā kānū bihi yastahziūna
— Transliteration
And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him.
— Saheeh International
كَذَٰلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُۥ فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
12
kadhālika naslukuhu fī qulūbi l-muj'rimīna
— Transliteration
Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals.
— Saheeh International
لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۖ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
13
lā yu'minūna bihi waqad khalat sunnatu l-awalīna
— Transliteration
They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples.
— Saheeh International
وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَظَلُّوا۟ فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ
14
walaw fataḥnā ʿalayhim bāban mina l-samāi faẓallū fīhi yaʿrujūna
— Transliteration
And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend,
— Saheeh International
لَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَٰرُنَا بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌ مَّسْحُورُونَ
15
laqālū innamā sukkirat abṣārunā bal naḥnu qawmun masḥūrūna
— Transliteration
They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic."
— Saheeh International
وَلَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ بُرُوجًا وَزَيَّنَّٰهَا لِلنَّٰظِرِينَ
16
walaqad jaʿalnā fī l-samāi burūjan wazayyannāhā lilnnāẓirīna
— Transliteration
And We have placed within the heaven great stars and have beautified it for the observers.
— Saheeh International
وَحَفِظْنَٰهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْطَٰنٍ رَّجِيمٍ
17
waḥafiẓ'nāhā min kulli shayṭānin rajīmin
— Transliteration
And We have protected it from every devil expelled [from the mercy of Allah]
— Saheeh International
إِلَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَرَقَ ٱلسَّمْعَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌ مُّبِينٌ
18
illā mani is'taraqa l-samʿa fa-atbaʿahu shihābun mubīnun
— Transliteration
Except one who steals a hearing and is pursued by a clear burning flame.
— Saheeh International
وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مَّوْزُونٍ
19
wal-arḍa madadnāhā wa-alqaynā fīhā rawāsiya wa-anbatnā fīhā min kulli shayin mawzūnin
— Transliteration
And the earth - We have spread it and cast therein firmly set mountains and caused to grow therein [something] of every well-balanced thing.
— Saheeh International
وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَٰيِشَ وَمَن لَّسْتُمْ لَهُۥ بِرَٰزِقِينَ
20
wajaʿalnā lakum fīhā maʿāyisha waman lastum lahu birāziqīna
— Transliteration
And We have made for you therein means of living and [for] those for whom you are not providers.
— Saheeh International
وَإِن مِّن شَىْءٍ إِلَّا عِندَنَا خَزَآئِنُهُۥ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِقَدَرٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
21
wa-in min shayin illā ʿindanā khazāinuhu wamā nunazziluhu illā biqadarin maʿlūmin
— Transliteration
And there is not a thing but that with Us are its depositories, and We do not send it down except according to a known measure.
— Saheeh International
وَأَرْسَلْنَا ٱلرِّيَٰحَ لَوَٰقِحَ فَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَسْقَيْنَٰكُمُوهُ وَمَآ أَنتُمْ لَهُۥ بِخَٰزِنِينَ
22
wa-arsalnā l-riyāḥa lawāqiḥa fa-anzalnā mina l-samāi māan fa-asqaynākumūhu wamā antum lahu bikhāzinīna
— Transliteration
And We have sent the fertilizing winds and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it. And you are not its retainers.
— Saheeh International
وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحْنُ ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ
23
wa-innā lanaḥnu nuḥ'yī wanumītu wanaḥnu l-wārithūna
— Transliteration
And indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritor.
— Saheeh International
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَـْٔخِرِينَ
24
walaqad ʿalim'nā l-mus'taqdimīna minkum walaqad ʿalim'nā l-mus'takhirīna
— Transliteration
And We have already known the preceding [generations] among you, and We have already known the later [ones to come].
— Saheeh International
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ
25
wa-inna rabbaka huwa yaḥshuruhum innahu ḥakīmun ʿalīmun
— Transliteration
And indeed, your Lord will gather them; indeed, He is Wise and Knowing.
— Saheeh International
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ
26
walaqad khalaqnā l-insāna min ṣalṣālin min ḥama-in masnūnin
— Transliteration
And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud.
— Saheeh International
وَٱلْجَآنَّ خَلَقْنَٰهُ مِن قَبْلُ مِن نَّارِ ٱلسَّمُومِ
27
wal-jāna khalaqnāhu min qablu min nāri l-samūmi
— Transliteration
And the jinn We created before from scorching fire.
— Saheeh International
وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى خَٰلِقٌۢ بَشَرًا مِّن صَلْصَٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ
28
wa-idh qāla rabbuka lil'malāikati innī khāliqun basharan min ṣalṣālin min ḥama-in masnūnin
— Transliteration
And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud.
— Saheeh International
فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُۥ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِى فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَٰجِدِينَ
29
fa-idhā sawwaytuhu wanafakhtu fīhi min rūḥī faqaʿū lahu sājidīna
— Transliteration
And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."
— Saheeh International
فَسَجَدَ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ
30
fasajada l-malāikatu kulluhum ajmaʿūna
— Transliteration
So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,
— Saheeh International
إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ
31
illā ib'līsa abā an yakūna maʿa l-sājidīna
— Transliteration
Except Iblees, he refused to be with those who prostrated.
— Saheeh International
قَالَ يَٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ
32
qāla yāib'līsu mā laka allā takūna maʿa l-sājidīna
— Transliteration
[Allah] said, O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?"
— Saheeh International
قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ
33
qāla lam akun li-asjuda libasharin khalaqtahu min ṣalṣālin min ḥama-in masnūnin
— Transliteration
He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud."
— Saheeh International
قَالَ فَٱخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ
34
qāla fa-ukh'ruj min'hā fa-innaka rajīmun
— Transliteration
[Allah] said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled.
— Saheeh International
وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ ٱللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
35
wa-inna ʿalayka l-laʿnata ilā yawmi l-dīni
— Transliteration
And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense."
— Saheeh International
قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ
36
qāla rabbi fa-anẓir'nī ilā yawmi yub'ʿathūna
— Transliteration
He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."
— Saheeh International
قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ
37
qāla fa-innaka mina l-munẓarīna
— Transliteration
[Allah] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved
— Saheeh International
إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْوَقْتِ ٱلْمَعْلُومِ
38
ilā yawmi l-waqti l-maʿlūmi
— Transliteration
Until the Day of the time well-known."
— Saheeh International
قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَغْوَيْتَنِى لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
39
qāla rabbi bimā aghwaytanī la-uzayyinanna lahum fī l-arḍi wala-ugh'wiyannahum ajmaʿīna
— Transliteration
[Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all
— Saheeh International
إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
40
illā ʿibādaka min'humu l-mukh'laṣīna
— Transliteration
Except, among them, Your chosen servants."
— Saheeh International
قَالَ هَٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ عَلَىَّ مُسْتَقِيمٌ
41
qāla hādhā ṣirāṭun ʿalayya mus'taqīmun
— Transliteration
[Allah] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight.
— Saheeh International
إِنَّ عِبَادِى لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَٰنٌ إِلَّا مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلْغَاوِينَ
42
inna ʿibādī laysa laka ʿalayhim sul'ṭānun illā mani ittabaʿaka mina l-ghāwīna
— Transliteration
Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators.
— Saheeh International
وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
43
wa-inna jahannama lamawʿiduhum ajmaʿīna
— Transliteration
And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all.
— Saheeh International
لَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَبْوَٰبٍ لِّكُلِّ بَابٍ مِّنْهُمْ جُزْءٌ مَّقْسُومٌ
44
lahā sabʿatu abwābin likulli bābin min'hum juz'on maqsūmun
— Transliteration
It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated."
— Saheeh International
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
45
inna l-mutaqīna fī jannātin waʿuyūnin
— Transliteration
Indeed, the righteous will be within gardens and springs.
— Saheeh International
ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَٰمٍ ءَامِنِينَ
46
ud'khulūhā bisalāmin āminīna
— Transliteration
[Having been told], "Enter it in peace, safe [and secure]."
— Saheeh International
وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِى صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَٰنًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ
47
wanazaʿnā mā fī ṣudūrihim min ghillin ikh'wānan ʿalā sururin mutaqābilīna
— Transliteration
And We will remove whatever is in their breasts of resentment, [so they will be] brothers, on thrones facing each other.
— Saheeh International
لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌ وَمَا هُم مِّنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِينَ
48
lā yamassuhum fīhā naṣabun wamā hum min'hā bimukh'rajīna
— Transliteration
No fatigue will touch them therein, nor from it will they [ever] be removed.
— Saheeh International
۞ نَبِّئْ عِبَادِىٓ أَنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
49
nabbi ʿibādī annī anā l-ghafūru l-raḥīmu
— Transliteration
[O Muhammad], inform My servants that it is I who am the Forgiving, the Merciful.
— Saheeh International
وَأَنَّ عَذَابِى هُوَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ٱلْأَلِيمُ
50
wa-anna ʿadhābī huwa l-ʿadhābu l-alīmu
— Transliteration
And that it is My punishment which is the painful punishment.
— Saheeh International
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَن ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
51
wanabbi'hum ʿan ḍayfi ib'rāhīma
— Transliteration
And inform them about the guests of Abraham,
— Saheeh International
إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَٰمًا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمْ وَجِلُونَ
52
idh dakhalū ʿalayhi faqālū salāman qāla innā minkum wajilūna
— Transliteration
When they entered upon him and said, "Peace." [Abraham] said, "Indeed, we are fearful of you."
— Saheeh International
قَالُوا۟ لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَٰمٍ عَلِيمٍ
53
qālū lā tawjal innā nubashiruka bighulāmin ʿalīmin
— Transliteration
[The angels] said, "Fear not. Indeed, we give you good tidings of a learned boy."
— Saheeh International
قَالَ أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِى عَلَىٰٓ أَن مَّسَّنِىَ ٱلْكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ
54
qāla abashartumūnī ʿalā an massaniya l-kibaru fabima tubashirūna
— Transliteration
He said, "Have you given me good tidings although old age has come upon me? Then of what [wonder] do you inform?"
— Saheeh International
قَالُوا۟ بَشَّرْنَٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْقَٰنِطِينَ
55
qālū basharnāka bil-ḥaqi falā takun mina l-qāniṭīna
— Transliteration
They said, "We have given you good tidings in truth, so do not be of the despairing."
— Saheeh International
قَالَ وَمَن يَقْنَطُ مِن رَّحْمَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ
56
qāla waman yaqnaṭu min raḥmati rabbihi illā l-ḍālūna
— Transliteration
He said, "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?"
— Saheeh International
قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
57
qāla famā khaṭbukum ayyuhā l-mur'salūna
— Transliteration
[Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?"
— Saheeh International
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ
58
qālū innā ur'sil'nā ilā qawmin muj'rimīna
— Transliteration
They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals,
— Saheeh International
إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
59
illā āla lūṭin innā lamunajjūhum ajmaʿīna
— Transliteration
Except the family of Lot; indeed, we will save them all
— Saheeh International
إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ قَدَّرْنَآ ۙ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ ٱلْغَٰبِرِينَ
60
illā im'ra-atahu qaddarnā innahā lamina l-ghābirīna
— Transliteration
Except his wife." Allah decreed that she is of those who remain behind.
— Saheeh International
فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
61
falammā jāa āla lūṭin l-mur'salūna
— Transliteration
And when the messengers came to the family of Lot,
— Saheeh International
قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَ
62
qāla innakum qawmun munkarūna
— Transliteration
He said, "Indeed, you are people unknown."
— Saheeh International
قَالُوا۟ بَلْ جِئْنَٰكَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ
63
qālū bal ji'nāka bimā kānū fīhi yamtarūna
— Transliteration
They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing,
— Saheeh International
وَأَتَيْنَٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَٰدِقُونَ
64
wa-ataynāka bil-ḥaqi wa-innā laṣādiqūna
— Transliteration
And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful.
— Saheeh International
فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱتَّبِعْ أَدْبَٰرَهُمْ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌ وَٱمْضُوا۟ حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ
65
fa-asri bi-ahlika biqiṭ'ʿin mina al-layli wa-ittabiʿ adbārahum walā yaltafit minkum aḥadun wa-im'ḍū ḥaythu tu'marūna
— Transliteration
So set out with your family during a portion of the night and follow behind them and let not anyone among you look back and continue on to where you are commanded."
— Saheeh International
وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَقْطُوعٌ مُّصْبِحِينَ
66
waqaḍaynā ilayhi dhālika l-amra anna dābira hāulāi maqṭūʿun muṣ'biḥīna
— Transliteration
And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning.
— Saheeh International
وَجَآءَ أَهْلُ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ
67
wajāa ahlu l-madīnati yastabshirūna
— Transliteration
And the people of the city came rejoicing.
— Saheeh International
قَالَ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ضَيْفِى فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ
68
qāla inna hāulāi ḍayfī falā tafḍaḥūni
— Transliteration
[Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me.
— Saheeh International
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ
69
wa-ittaqū l-laha walā tukh'zūni
— Transliteration
And fear Allah and do not disgrace me."
— Saheeh International
قَالُوٓا۟ أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
70
qālū awalam nanhaka ʿani l-ʿālamīna
— Transliteration
They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?"
— Saheeh International
قَالَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِىٓ إِن كُنتُمْ فَٰعِلِينَ
71
qāla hāulāi banātī in kuntum fāʿilīna
— Transliteration
[Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]."
— Saheeh International
لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِى سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ
72
laʿamruka innahum lafī sakratihim yaʿmahūna
— Transliteration
By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly.
— Saheeh International
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ
73
fa-akhadhathumu l-ṣayḥatu mush'riqīna
— Transliteration
So the shriek seized them at sunrise.
— Saheeh International
فَجَعَلْنَا عَٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ
74
fajaʿalnā ʿāliyahā sāfilahā wa-amṭarnā ʿalayhim ḥijāratan min sijjīlin
— Transliteration
And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay.
— Saheeh International
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَٰتٍ لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ
75
inna fī dhālika laāyātin lil'mutawassimīna
— Transliteration
Indeed in that are signs for those who discern.
— Saheeh International
وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُّقِيمٍ
76
wa-innahā labisabīlin muqīmin
— Transliteration
And indeed, those cities are [situated] on an established road.
— Saheeh International
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
77
inna fī dhālika laāyatan lil'mu'minīna
— Transliteration
Indeed in that is a sign for the believers.
— Saheeh International
وَإِن كَانَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ لَظَٰلِمِينَ
78
wa-in kāna aṣḥābu l-aykati laẓālimīna
— Transliteration
And the companions of the thicket were [also] wrongdoers.
— Saheeh International
فَٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ
79
fa-intaqamnā min'hum wa-innahumā labi-imāmin mubīnin
— Transliteration
So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway.
— Saheeh International
وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْحِجْرِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
80
walaqad kadhaba aṣḥābu l-ḥij'ri l-mur'salīna
— Transliteration
And certainly did the companions of Thamud deny the messengers.
— Saheeh International
وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْ ءَايَٰتِنَا فَكَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ
81
waātaynāhum āyātinā fakānū ʿanhā muʿ'riḍīna
— Transliteration
And We gave them Our signs, but from them they were turning away.
— Saheeh International
وَكَانُوا۟ يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا ءَامِنِينَ
82
wakānū yanḥitūna mina l-jibāli buyūtan āminīna
— Transliteration
And they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure.
— Saheeh International
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ
83
fa-akhadhathumu l-ṣayḥatu muṣ'biḥīna
— Transliteration
But the shriek seized them at early morning.
— Saheeh International
فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
84
famā aghnā ʿanhum mā kānū yaksibūna
— Transliteration
So nothing availed them [from] what they used to earn.
— Saheeh International
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَـَٔاتِيَةٌ ۖ فَٱصْفَحِ ٱلصَّفْحَ ٱلْجَمِيلَ
85
wamā khalaqnā l-samāwāti wal-arḍa wamā baynahumā illā bil-ḥaqi wa-inna l-sāʿata laātiyatun fa-iṣ'faḥi l-ṣafḥa l-jamīla
— Transliteration
And We have not created the heavens and earth and that between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness.
— Saheeh International
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلْخَلَّٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
86
inna rabbaka huwa l-khalāqu l-ʿalīmu
— Transliteration
Indeed, your Lord - He is the Knowing Creator.
— Saheeh International
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَٰكَ سَبْعًا مِّنَ ٱلْمَثَانِى وَٱلْقُرْءَانَ ٱلْعَظِيمَ
87
walaqad ātaynāka sabʿan mina l-mathānī wal-qur'āna l-ʿaẓīma
— Transliteration
And We have certainly given you, [O Muhammad], seven of the often repeated [verses] and the great Qur'an.
— Saheeh International
لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَٱخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
88
lā tamuddanna ʿaynayka ilā mā mattaʿnā bihi azwājan min'hum walā taḥzan ʿalayhim wa-ikh'fiḍ janāḥaka lil'mu'minīna
— Transliteration
Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of the disbelievers, and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing to the believers
— Saheeh International
وَقُلْ إِنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلنَّذِيرُ ٱلْمُبِينُ
89
waqul innī anā l-nadhīru l-mubīnu
— Transliteration
And say, "Indeed, I am the clear warner" -
— Saheeh International
كَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَى ٱلْمُقْتَسِمِينَ
90
kamā anzalnā ʿalā l-muq'tasimīna
— Transliteration
Just as We had revealed [scriptures] to the separators
— Saheeh International
ٱلَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا۟ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ عِضِينَ
91
alladhīna jaʿalū l-qur'āna ʿiḍīna
— Transliteration
Who have made the Qur'an into portions.
— Saheeh International
فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْـَٔلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
92
fawarabbika lanasalannahum ajmaʿīna
— Transliteration
So by your Lord, We will surely question them all
— Saheeh International
عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
93
ʿammā kānū yaʿmalūna
— Transliteration
About what they used to do.
— Saheeh International
فَٱصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
94
fa-iṣ'daʿ bimā tu'maru wa-aʿriḍ ʿani l-mush'rikīna
— Transliteration
Then declare what you are commanded and turn away from the polytheists.
— Saheeh International
إِنَّا كَفَيْنَٰكَ ٱلْمُسْتَهْزِءِينَ
95
innā kafaynāka l-mus'tahziīna
— Transliteration
Indeed, We are sufficient for you against the mockers
— Saheeh International
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ
96
alladhīna yajʿalūna maʿa l-lahi ilāhan ākhara fasawfa yaʿlamūna
— Transliteration
Who make [equal] with Allah another deity. But they are going to know.
— Saheeh International
وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ
97
walaqad naʿlamu annaka yaḍīqu ṣadruka bimā yaqūlūna
— Transliteration
And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say.
— Saheeh International
فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ
98
fasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika wakun mina l-sājidīna
— Transliteration
So exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him].
— Saheeh International
وَٱعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ ٱلْيَقِينُ
99
wa-uʿ'bud rabbaka ḥattā yatiyaka l-yaqīnu
— Transliteration
And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death).
— Saheeh International
