al-ḥāqatu
— Transliteration
The Inevitable Reality -
— Saheeh International
مَا ٱلْحَآقَّةُ
2
mā l-ḥāqatu
— Transliteration
What is the Inevitable Reality?
— Saheeh International
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْحَآقَّةُ
3
wamā adrāka mā l-ḥāqatu
— Transliteration
And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality?
— Saheeh International
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادٌۢ بِٱلْقَارِعَةِ
4
kadhabat thamūdu waʿādun bil-qāriʿati
— Transliteration
Thamud and 'Aad denied the Striking Calamity.
— Saheeh International
فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ
5
fa-ammā thamūdu fa-uh'likū bil-ṭāghiyati
— Transliteration
So as for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast].
— Saheeh International
وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ
6
wa-ammā ʿādun fa-uh'likū birīḥin ṣarṣarin ʿātiyatin
— Transliteration
And as for 'Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind
— Saheeh International
سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا فَتَرَى ٱلْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ

sakharahā ʿalayhim sabʿa layālin wathamāniyata ayyāmin ḥusūman fatarā l-qawma fīhā ṣarʿā ka-annahum aʿjāzu nakhlin khāwiyatin
— Transliteration
Which Allah imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.
— Saheeh International
فَهَلْ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّنۢ بَاقِيَةٍ
8
fahal tarā lahum min bāqiyatin
— Transliteration
Then do you see of them any remains?
— Saheeh International
وَجَآءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَن قَبْلَهُۥ وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَٰتُ بِٱلْخَاطِئَةِ
9
wajāa fir'ʿawnu waman qablahu wal-mu'tafikātu bil-khāṭi-ati
— Transliteration
And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.
— Saheeh International
فَعَصَوْا۟ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةً رَّابِيَةً
10
faʿaṣaw rasūla rabbihim fa-akhadhahum akhdhatan rābiyatan
— Transliteration
And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity].
— Saheeh International
إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا ٱلْمَآءُ حَمَلْنَٰكُمْ فِى ٱلْجَارِيَةِ
11
innā lammā ṭaghā l-māu ḥamalnākum fī l-jāriyati
— Transliteration
Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship
— Saheeh International
لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنٌ وَٰعِيَةٌ
12
linajʿalahā lakum tadhkiratan wataʿiyahā udhunun wāʿiyatun
— Transliteration
That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it.
— Saheeh International
فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ
13
fa-idhā nufikha fī l-ṣūri nafkhatun wāḥidatun
— Transliteration
Then when the Horn is blown with one blast
— Saheeh International
وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَٰحِدَةً
14
waḥumilati l-arḍu wal-jibālu fadukkatā dakkatan wāḥidatan
— Transliteration
And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow -
— Saheeh International
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ
15
fayawma-idhin waqaʿati l-wāqiʿatu
— Transliteration
Then on that Day, the Resurrection will occur,
— Saheeh International
وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِىَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ
16
wa-inshaqqati l-samāu fahiya yawma-idhin wāhiyatun
— Transliteration
And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.
— Saheeh International
وَٱلْمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرْجَآئِهَا ۚ وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثَمَٰنِيَةٌ
17
wal-malaku ʿalā arjāihā wayaḥmilu ʿarsha rabbika fawqahum yawma-idhin thamāniyatun
— Transliteration
And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].
— Saheeh International
يَوْمَئِذٍ تُعْرَضُونَ لَا تَخْفَىٰ مِنكُمْ خَافِيَةٌ
18
yawma-idhin tuʿ'raḍūna lā takhfā minkum khāfiyatun
— Transliteration
That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed.
— Saheeh International
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ ٱقْرَءُوا۟ كِتَٰبِيَهْ
19
fa-ammā man ūtiya kitābahu biyamīnihi fayaqūlu hāumu iq'raū kitābiyah
— Transliteration
So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record!
— Saheeh International
إِنِّى ظَنَنتُ أَنِّى مُلَٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهْ
20
innī ẓanantu annī mulāqin ḥisābiyah
— Transliteration
Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account."
— Saheeh International
فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ
21
fahuwa fī ʿīshatin rāḍiyatin
— Transliteration
So he will be in a pleasant life -
— Saheeh International
فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
22
fī jannatin ʿāliyatin
— Transliteration
In an elevated garden,
— Saheeh International
قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٌ
23
quṭūfuhā dāniyatun
— Transliteration
Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near.
— Saheeh International
كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَآ أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَيَّامِ ٱلْخَالِيَةِ
24
kulū wa-ish'rabū hanīan bimā aslaftum fī l-ayāmi l-khāliyati
— Transliteration
[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past."
— Saheeh International
وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِشِمَالِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى لَمْ أُوتَ كِتَٰبِيَهْ
25
wa-ammā man ūtiya kitābahu bishimālihi fayaqūlu yālaytanī lam ūta kitābiyah
— Transliteration
But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record
— Saheeh International
وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْ
26
walam adri mā ḥisābiyah
— Transliteration
And had not known what is my account.
— Saheeh International
يَٰلَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ ٱلْقَاضِيَةَ
27
yālaytahā kānati l-qāḍiyata
— Transliteration
I wish my death had been the decisive one.
— Saheeh International
مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنِّى مَالِيَهْ ۜ
28
mā aghnā ʿannī māliyah
— Transliteration
My wealth has not availed me.
— Saheeh International
هَلَكَ عَنِّى سُلْطَٰنِيَهْ
29
halaka ʿannī sul'ṭāniyah
— Transliteration
Gone from me is my authority."
— Saheeh International
خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ
30
khudhūhu faghullūhu
— Transliteration
[Allah will say], "Seize him and shackle him.
— Saheeh International
ثُمَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ
31
thumma l-jaḥīma ṣallūhu
— Transliteration
Then into Hellfire drive him.
— Saheeh International
ثُمَّ فِى سِلْسِلَةٍ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًا فَٱسْلُكُوهُ
32
thumma fī sil'silatin dharʿuhā sabʿūna dhirāʿan fa-us'lukūhu
— Transliteration
Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him."
— Saheeh International
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
33
innahu kāna lā yu'minu bil-lahi l-ʿaẓīmi
— Transliteration
Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allah, the Most Great,
— Saheeh International
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ
34
walā yaḥuḍḍu ʿalā ṭaʿāmi l-mis'kīni
— Transliteration
Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor.
— Saheeh International
فَلَيْسَ لَهُ ٱلْيَوْمَ هَٰهُنَا حَمِيمٌ
35
falaysa lahu l-yawma hāhunā ḥamīmun
— Transliteration
So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend
— Saheeh International
وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٍ
36
walā ṭaʿāmun illā min ghis'līnin
— Transliteration
Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;
— Saheeh International
لَّا يَأْكُلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْخَٰطِـُٔونَ
37
lā yakuluhu illā l-khāṭiūna
— Transliteration
None will eat it except the sinners.
— Saheeh International
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ
38
falā uq'simu bimā tub'ṣirūna
— Transliteration
So I swear by what you see
— Saheeh International
وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ
39
wamā lā tub'ṣirūna
— Transliteration
And what you do not see
— Saheeh International
إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ
40
innahu laqawlu rasūlin karīmin
— Transliteration
[That] indeed, the Qur'an is the word of a noble Messenger.
— Saheeh International
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تُؤْمِنُونَ
41
wamā huwa biqawli shāʿirin qalīlan mā tu'minūna
— Transliteration
And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.
— Saheeh International
وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ
42
walā biqawli kāhinin qalīlan mā tadhakkarūna
— Transliteration
Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember.
— Saheeh International
تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
43
tanzīlun min rabbi l-ʿālamīna
— Transliteration
[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
— Saheeh International
وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ ٱلْأَقَاوِيلِ
44
walaw taqawwala ʿalaynā baʿḍa l-aqāwīli
— Transliteration
And if Muhammad had made up about Us some [false] sayings,
— Saheeh International
لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِٱلْيَمِينِ
45
la-akhadhnā min'hu bil-yamīni
— Transliteration
We would have seized him by the right hand;
— Saheeh International
ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ ٱلْوَتِينَ
46
thumma laqaṭaʿnā min'hu l-watīna
— Transliteration
Then We would have cut from him the aorta.
— Saheeh International
فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَٰجِزِينَ
47
famā minkum min aḥadin ʿanhu ḥājizīna
— Transliteration
And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.
— Saheeh International
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَذْكِرَةٌ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ
48
wa-innahu latadhkiratun lil'muttaqīna
— Transliteration
And indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder for the righteous.
— Saheeh International
وَإِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ
49
wa-innā lanaʿlamu anna minkum mukadhibīna
— Transliteration
And indeed, We know that among you are deniers.
— Saheeh International
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَسْرَةٌ عَلَى ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
50
wa-innahu laḥasratun ʿalā l-kāfirīna
— Transliteration
And indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers.
— Saheeh International
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ
51
wa-innahu laḥaqqu l-yaqīni
— Transliteration
And indeed, it is the truth of certainty.
— Saheeh International
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
52
fasabbiḥ bi-is'mi rabbika l-ʿaẓīmi
— Transliteration
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
— Saheeh International
