لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ

lā uq'simu bihādhā l-baladi
— Transliteration
I swear by this city, Makkah -
— Saheeh International
Reciter:
Surah 90 · 20 verses

90 130
127
لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ
1
lā uq'simu bihādhā l-baladi
— Transliteration
I swear by this city, Makkah -
— Saheeh International
وَأَنتَ حِلٌّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ
2
wa-anta ḥillun bihādhā l-baladi
— Transliteration
And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city -
— Saheeh International
وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ
3
wawālidin wamā walada
— Transliteration
And [by] the father and that which was born [of him],
— Saheeh International
لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ
4
laqad khalaqnā l-insāna fī kabadin
— Transliteration
We have certainly created man into hardship.
— Saheeh International
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ
5
ayaḥsabu an lan yaqdira ʿalayhi aḥadun
— Transliteration
Does he think that never will anyone overcome him?
— Saheeh International
يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا
6
yaqūlu ahlaktu mālan lubadan
— Transliteration
He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance."
— Saheeh International
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
7
ayaḥsabu an lam yarahu aḥadun
— Transliteration
Does he think that no one has seen him?
— Saheeh International
أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عَيْنَيْنِ
8
alam najʿal lahu ʿaynayni
— Transliteration
Have We not made for him two eyes?
— Saheeh International
وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ
9
walisānan washafatayni
— Transliteration
And a tongue and two lips?
— Saheeh International
وَهَدَيْنَٰهُ ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِ
10
wahadaynāhu l-najdayni
— Transliteration
And have shown him the two ways?
— Saheeh International
فَلَا ٱقْتَحَمَ ٱلْعَقَبَةَ
11
falā iq'taḥama l-ʿaqabata
— Transliteration
But he has not broken through the difficult pass.
— Saheeh International
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْعَقَبَةُ
12
wamā adrāka mā l-ʿaqabatu
— Transliteration
And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass?
— Saheeh International
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ
13
fakku raqabatin
— Transliteration
It is the freeing of a slave
— Saheeh International
أَوْ إِطْعَٰمٌ فِى يَوْمٍ ذِى مَسْغَبَةٍ
14
aw iṭ'ʿāmun fī yawmin dhī masghabatin
— Transliteration
Or feeding on a day of severe hunger
— Saheeh International
يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ
15
yatīman dhā maqrabatin
— Transliteration
An orphan of near relationship
— Saheeh International
أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ
16
aw mis'kīnan dhā matrabatin
— Transliteration
Or a needy person in misery
— Saheeh International
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِ
17
thumma kāna mina alladhīna āmanū watawāṣaw bil-ṣabri watawāṣaw bil-marḥamati
— Transliteration
And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion.
— Saheeh International
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
18
ulāika aṣḥābu l-maymanati
— Transliteration
Those are the companions of the right.
— Saheeh International
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
19
wa-alladhīna kafarū biāyātinā hum aṣḥābu l-mashamati
— Transliteration
But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left.
— Saheeh International
عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌۢ
20
ʿalayhim nārun mu'ṣadatun
— Transliteration
Over them will be fire closed in.
— Saheeh International
