Hadith of Qays ibn Abi ‘Arzah (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي غَرَزَةَ، ١٨٤٦٧ - حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي غَرَزَةَ، قَالَ: كُنَّا نَبْتَاعُ الْأَوْسَاقَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ، وَكُنَّا نُسَمِّي أَنْفُسَنَا السَّمَاسِرَةَ، فَأَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَسَمَّانَا بِاسْمٍ هُوَ أَحْسَنَ مِمَّا كُنَّا نُسَمِّي أَنْفُسَنَا بِهِ، فَقَالَ: " يَا مَعْشَرَ التُّجَّارِ، إِنَّ هَذَا الْبَيْعَ يَحْضُرُهُ اللَّغْوُ، وَالْحَلِفُ، فَشُوبُوهُ بِالصَّدَقَةِ " (١)، ،

It is narrated from Qais bin Abi Ghurrarah (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the blessed era of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ), we traders were first called brokers (dalal). Once, the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) came to us in "Baqi" and said, "O group, O traders!" The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) addressed us first with a more honorable name, "In trade, oaths and false statements also occur, therefore, mix charity and alms into it."
