Hadith of Abu Juhaym ibn al-Harith ibn al-Simmah (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ أَبِي جُهَيْمِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الصِّمَّةِ (١)، ١٧٥٤٠ - قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ: مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ، مَوْلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، أَنَّ زَيْدَ بْنَ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيَّ أَرْسَلَهُ إِلَى أَبِي جُهَيْمٍ يَسْأَلُهُ: مَاذَا سَمِعَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْمَارِّ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ الْمُصَلِّي، مَاذَا عَلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ أَبُو الْجُهَيْمِ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَوْ يَعْلَمُ الْمَارُّ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ الْمُصَلِّي مَاذَا عَلَيْهِ، لَكَانَ أَنْ يَقِفَ أَرْبَعِينَ، خَيْرًا لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمُرَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ " قَالَ أَبُو النَّضْرِ: " لَا أَدْرِي أَقَالَ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا، أَوْ أَرْبَعِينَ شَهْرًا، أَوْ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً " (٢)، ،

Busr bin Sa'id says that once Zaid bin Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) sent me to Abu Juhaim (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask about the hadith he had heard regarding a person passing in front of someone who is praying. He said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say that it is better for a person to stand and wait for forty ________ than to pass in front of someone who is praying. I do not remember whether the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said days, months, or years.

حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَعْرَجُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُمَيْرًا، مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: أَقْبَلْتُ أَنَا وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَسَارٍ مَوْلَى مَيْمُونَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، دَخَلْنَا عَلَى أَبِي جُهَيْمِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الصِّمَّةِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، قَالَ أَبُو جُهَيْمٍ: " أَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ نَحْوِ بِئْرِ جَمَلٍ، فَلَقِيَهُ رَجُلٌ، فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ، فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، حَتَّى أَقْبَلَ عَلَى الْجِدَارِ، فَمَسَحَ بِوَجْهِهِ وَيَدَيْهِ، ثُمَّ رَدَّ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " (١)، ،

Umair, who was the freed slave of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), says that I and Abdullah bin Yasar, who was the freed slave of Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), went to Abu Juham bin Harith (may Allah be pleased with him). He said that once the Prophet (ﷺ) was coming from the direction of Bir Jamal when he met a man on the way. The man greeted him with salam, but the Prophet (ﷺ) did not reply. Instead, he turned towards a wall, performed tayammum on his face and hands with it, and then replied to his salam.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ، حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ خُصَيْفَةَ، أَخْبَرَنِي بُسْرُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو جُهَيْمٍ: أَنَّ رَجُلَيْنِ اخْتَلَفَا فِي آيَةٍ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ، فَقَالَ هَذَا: تَلَقَّيْتُهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ: تَلَقَّيْتُهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ. فَسَأَلَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: " الْقُرْآنُ يُقْرَأُ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ، فَلَا تُمَارُوا فِي الْقُرْآنِ، فَإِنَّ مِرَاءً فِي الْقُرْآنِ كُفْرٌ " (١)، ،

It is narrated from Abu Juhaim (may Allah be pleased with him) that once there was a disagreement between two men regarding a verse of the Noble Qur'an. One said, "I have recited it in this way from the Prophet (ﷺ)," and the other also said, "I have received it in this way from the Prophet (ﷺ)." Eventually, they asked the Prophet (ﷺ), and he said, "The Noble Qur'an can be recited on seven letters, so do not dispute about the Noble Qur'an, for disputing about the Qur'an is disbelief."
