Hadith of Taliq ibn ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ طَلْقِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ (١)، ١٦٢٨٣ - حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، أَوْ بَدْرٍ ـ أَنَا أَشُكُّ ـ عَنْ طَلْقِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْحَنَفِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَا يَنْظُرُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِلَى صَلَاةِ عَبْدٍ لَا يُقِيمُ فِيهَا صُلْبَهُ بَيْنَ رُكُوعِهَا وَسُجُودِهَا " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Taliq bin Ali that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: Allah does not look at the prayer of the person who does not straighten his back between bowing (ruku) and prostration (sajdah).

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ بْنُ عُتْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ بَدْرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ شَيْبَانَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " لَا يَنْظُرُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِلَى رَجُلٍ لَا يُقِيمُ صُلْبَهُ بَيْنَ رُكُوعِهِ وَسُجُودِهِ " (١)، ،

It is narrated from Taliq bin Ali that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: Allah does not look at the prayer of the person who does not straighten his back between bowing (ruku) and prostration (sajdah).

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُلَازِمٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ بَدْرٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ طَلْقٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ، فَأَطْلَقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِزَارَهُ، فَطَارَقَ (١) بِهِ رِدَاءَهُ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى، فَلَمَّا قَضَى الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ: " كُلُّكُمْ يَجِدُ ثَوْبَيْنِ؟ " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Taliq that he asked the Prophet (ﷺ) about the ruling of praying in a single garment: so the Prophet (ﷺ) removed his lower garment and wrapped it around himself, then stood and began to pray. After the prayer, he said: Does each one of you have two garments available?

حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ بْنُ عُتْبَةَ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ طَلْقٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَيَتَوَضَّأُ أَحَدُنَا إِذَا مَسَّ ذَكَرَهُ؟ قَالَ: " إِنَّمَا هُوَ بَضْعَةٌ مِنْكَ أَوْ جَسَدِكَ " (١)، ،

It is narrated from Talq that a man asked the Prophet (peace be upon him), "If any one of us touches his private part, should he perform ablution?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, "The private part is only a part of your body."

حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ طَلْقٍ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ شَهِدَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ، فَلَمْ يَقُلْ لَهُ شَيْئًا، فَلَمَّا أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ " طَارَقَ (١) رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ ثَوْبَيْهِ فَصَلَّى فِيهِمَا " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Taliq that he asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) about the ruling of praying in a single garment: so the Prophet (peace be upon him) removed his lower garment, wrapped it around himself, and stood up to pray.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ دَاوُدَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ طَلْقٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِذَا أَرَادَ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنْ امْرَأَتِهِ حَاجَةً فَلْيَأْتِهَا وَلَوْ كَانَتْ عَلَى تَنُّورٍ " (١)، ،

It is narrated from Taliq that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: When any one of you feels the need for his wife, he should fulfill his need with her even if she is at the oven.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ دَاوُدَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بَدْرٍ، عَنْ طَلْقِ بن عَلِيٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَا يَكُونُ وِتْرَانِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ "، قَالَ: وَسُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يُصَلِّي فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ، قَالَ: " وَكُلُّكُمْ يَجِدُ ثَوْبَيْنِ؟ " (١)، ،

It is narrated from Taliq that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Witr is not performed twice in one night. It is narrated from Taliq that a person asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) about praying in a single garment, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Does each one of you have two garments?

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ طَلْقٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْهِلَالَ فَصُومُوا، وَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَأَفْطِرُوا، فَإِنْ أُغْمِيَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَتِمُّوا الْعِدَّةَ " (١)،

It is narrated from Taliq that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: When you see the moon, then fast, and when you see the moon (again), then celebrate Eid. If it is cloudy, then complete the count of thirty.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ طَلْقٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " لَيْسَ الْفَجْرُ الْمُسْتَطِيلَ فِي، ، الْأُفُقِ وَلَكِنَّهُ الْمُعْتَرِضُ الْأَحْمَرُ " (١)،

It is narrated from Taliq that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: The true dawn is not that which spreads vertically in the horizon, but rather it is the redness which spreads horizontally.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ دَاوُدَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ طَلْقٍ،، ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: مَسِسْتُ ذَكَرِي أَوِ الرَّجُلُ يَمَسُّ ذَكَرَهُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ عَلَيْهِ الْوُضُوءُ؟ قَالَ: " لَا إِنَّمَا هُوَ مِنْكَ " (١)،

It is narrated from Talq that a man asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) in my presence: "If any one of us touches his private part, should he perform ablution?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: "No, the private part is only a part of your body."

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ دَاوُدَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بَدْرٍ، عَنْ طَلْقِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ: وَفَدْنَا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا وَدَّعَنَا أَمَرَنِي فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِإِدَاوَةٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ، فَحَسَا (٢) مِنْهَا، ثُمَّ مَجَّ فِيهَا ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ أَوْكَأَهَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " اذْهَبْ بِهَا وَانْضَحْ مَسْجِدَ قَوْمِكَ وَأْمُرْهُمْ يَرْفَعُوا بِرُءُوسِهِمْ أَنْ رَفَعَهَا (٣) اللهُ "، قُلْتُ: إِنَّ الْأَرْضَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكَ بَعِيدَةٌ وَإِنَّهَا تَيْبَسُ، قَالَ: " فَإِذَا يَبِسَتْ فَمُدَّهَا " (٤)، ،

It is narrated from Taliq bin Ali that once we came to the service of the Prophet (ﷺ) as a delegation. At the time of departure, the Prophet (ﷺ) instructed me, so I brought a water vessel to him. The Prophet (ﷺ) drank from it and rinsed his mouth in it three times. Then he tied the mouth of that vessel and said: Take this vessel and sprinkle its water in the mosque of your people, and command them to keep their heads high, for Allah has granted them honor. I said: There is a long distance between us and you; the water of this vessel will dry up before it reaches our area. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: When it begins to dry up, add more water to it.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ طَلْقٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ جَعَلَ هَذِهِ الْأَهِلَّةَ مَوَاقِيتَ لِلنَّاسِ، صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، فَإِنْ، ، غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَتِمُّوا الْعِدَّةَ " (١)،

It is narrated from Taliq that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Allah has made the moon a means for people to determine times, so when you see the moon, observe the fast, and when you see the moon, celebrate Eid. If it is cloudy, then complete the count to thirty.

حَدَّثَنَا قُرَّانُ بْنُ تَمَّامٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ طَلْقٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَجُلٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَيَتَوَضَّأُ أَحَدُنَا إِذَا مَسَّ ذَكَرَهُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ؟ قَالَ: " هَلْ هُوَ إِلَّا مِنْكَ، أَوْ بَضْعَةٌ مِنْكَ؟ " (٢)،

It is narrated from Talq that a man asked the Prophet (peace be upon him), "If any one of us touches his private part, should he perform ablution?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, "The private part is only a part of your body."

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا مُلَازِمُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو السُّحَيْمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا جَدِّي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ بَدْرٍ، قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَنِي سِرَاجُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ، أَنَّ قَيْسَ بْنَ طَلْقٍ حَدَّثَهُمَا، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ طَلْقَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ أَتَانَا فِي رَمَضَانَ وَكَانَ عِنْدَنَا حَتَّى أَمْسَى، فَصَلَّى بِنَا الْقِيَامَ فِي رَمَضَانَ، وَأَوْتَرَ بِنَا، ثُمَّ انْحَدَرَ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ رَيْمَانَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ حَتَّى بَقِيَ الْوَتْرُ، فَقَدَّمَ رَجُلًا فَأَوْتَرَ، ، بِهِمْ وَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ نَبِيَّ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " لَا وِتْرَانِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ " (١)، ،

Qais bin Talq narrates that once during Ramadan, our father, Talq bin Ali, came to us and stayed with us until night. He led us in the Tarawih prayer and also led us in Witr. Then he went to the Masjid Raihan and led them in prayer as well. When the Witr remained, he appointed one of them to lead, and that person led them in Witr. Then Talq said: I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say that there are not two Witrs in one night.
