Hadith of the father of Ba'jah ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ وَالِدِ بَعْجَةَ (١)، ٢٧٦٤٦ - حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَى بْنَ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي بَعْجَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهُمْ يَوْمًا: " هَذَا يَوْمُ عَاشُورَاءَ، فَصُومُوا " فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفٍ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي تَرَكْتُ قَوْمِي، مِنْهُمْ صَائِمٌ، وَمِنْهُمْ مُفْطِرٌ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " اذْهَبْ إِلَيْهِمْ، فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْهُمْ مُفْطِرًا (٢) ، فَلْيُتِمَّ صَوْمَهُ " (٣)، ،

Bajjah bin Abdullah narrates from his father that one day the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to him: "Today is the day of Ashura, so you should fast today." Upon hearing this, a man from Banu Amr bin Awf said: O Messenger of Allah! I am coming from my people in such a state that some of them were fasting and some were not. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Go to them and convey this message: whoever among them is not fasting should spend the rest of the day without eating or drinking."
