Chapter 1

It is narrated from Durrah bint Abi Lahab (may Allah be pleased with her) that once I was with Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) when the Prophet (ﷺ) came and said: "Bring me water for ablution." Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and I both hurried towards a vessel, I reached it first and brought it. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) performed ablution and, raising his gaze, said to me: "You are from me and I am from you." Then a man was brought, he said: I did not do this, rather people had told me. He had asked the Prophet (ﷺ) this question from the pulpit: Who among the people is the best? The Prophet (ﷺ) replied: "The one who has the most understanding of Allah's religion and the one who maintains the most ties of kinship."

It is narrated from Durrah bint Abi Lahab (may Allah be pleased with her) that once a man asked the Prophet (ﷺ) on the pulpit: "Who is the best among the people?" The Prophet (ﷺ) replied: "The one who recites the Qur'an the most, is most God-fearing, enjoins what is right and forbids what is wrong, and maintains the ties of kinship the most."
