Hadith of Mu'awiyah ibn Hudayj (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حُدَيْجٍ (١)، ٢٧٢٥٤ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، أَنَّ سُوَيْدَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حُدَيْجٍ، " " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى يَوْمًا فَسَلَّمَ وَانْصَرَفَ وَقَدْ بَقِيَ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ رَكْعَةٌ، فَأَدْرَكَهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: نَسِيتَ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ رَكْعَةً، فَرَجَعَ فَدَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ، وَأَمَرَ بِلَالًا فَأَقَامَ الصَّلَاةَ، فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ رَكْعَةً، فَأَخْبَرْتُ بِذَلِكَ النَّاسَ، فَقَالُوا لِي: أَتَعْرِفُ الرَّجُلَ؟ قُلْتُ: لَا، إِلَّا أَنْ أَرَاهُ، فَمَرَّ بِي فَقُلْتُ: هُوَ هَذَا، فَقَالُوا: طَلْحَةُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Muawiyah bin Hudaij (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led a prayer, and after one rak'ah was still remaining, he said the salam and left. A man approached the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said that you have forgotten one rak'ah of the prayer. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) returned, entered the mosque, and ordered Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), who gave the iqamah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led the people in that one rak'ah. I told the people about this, and they asked me: Do you recognize that man? I said no, but I can recognize him if I see him. Meanwhile, that man passed by me, so I said that this is the one. The people told me that he is Talhah bin Ubaidullah.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، أَنَّ سُوَيْدَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ (١) ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حُدَيْجٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " غَدْوَةٌ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ أَوْ رَوْحَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say: Going out in the morning or evening in the way of Allah is better than the world and whatever is in it.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ التُّجِيبِيِّ مِنْ كِنْدَةَ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حُدَيْجٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنْ كَانَ فِي شَيْءٍ شِفَاءٌ فَفِي شَرْطَةِ مِحْجَمٍ، أَوْ شَرْبَةٍ مِنْ عَسَلٍ، أَوْ كَيَّةٍ بِنَارٍ تُصِيبُ أَلَمًا، وَمَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَكْتَوِيَ " (١)، ،

It is narrated from Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "If there is any cure in anything, it is in the instrument of cupping, or in a sip of honey, or in cauterization with fire at the place of pain, but I do not like cauterization with fire."

حَدَّثَنَا عَتَّابُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي الْحَارِثُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ حُدَيْجٍ يَقُولُ: " هَاجَرْنَا عَلَى عَهْدِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَهُ طَلَعَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ (١) " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we presented ourselves before Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) at noon, and as soon as we arrived, he ascended the pulpit.

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ، عَنْ صَالِحٍ أَبِي (١) حُجَيْرٍ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حُدَيْجٍ قَالَ: وَكَانَتْ لَهُ صُحْبَةٌ قَالَ: " مَنْ غَسَّلَ مَيِّتًا وَكَفَّنَهُ وَتَبِعَهُ وَوَلِيَ جُثَّتَهُ (٢) رَجَعَ مَغْفُورًا لَهُ "، قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ: قَالَ أَبِي: لَيْسَ بِمَرْفُوعٍ (٣)، ، . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .، ،

It is narrated from Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), "who was honored with the companionship of the Prophet," that whoever bathes a deceased person, shrouds him, accompanies him, and remains present until the burial, will return forgiven. (This hadith is not marfu‘.)
