Some people from the delegation of Abdul Qais narrate that when we presented ourselves before the Prophet (ﷺ), there was no limit to the people's happiness. When we went to the people, they made space for us, and we sat there. The Prophet (ﷺ) welcomed us, prayed for us, and looking towards us, asked, "Who is your leader?" We all pointed towards Mundhir bin 'Aiz. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Is this Ashajj?" In fact, there was a mark of a donkey's hoof on his face. This was the first day he was given this name. We said, "O Messenger of Allah! Yes." After that, some people who had been left behind tied their mounts, gathered their belongings, removed the disarray, took off their travel clothes, put on fine clothes, and then presented themselves before the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) had stretched out his blessed feet and was reclining from behind. When Ashajj approached, the people made space for him and said, "O Ashajj, come here." The Prophet (ﷺ) also sat up straight and drew in his feet and said, "Ashajj, come here." He went and sat on the right side of the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) welcomed him, treated him with kindness and generosity, inquired about their towns, and mentioned each settlement by name, such as Safa, Mashqar, and other towns. They said, "O Messenger of Allah! May our parents be sacrificed for you, you know the names of our towns better than we do." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I have been to your areas, and there I was treated with generosity." Then the Prophet (ﷺ) turned to the Ansar and said, "O group of Ansar, honor your brothers, for they are like you in Islam. In meeting and glad tidings, they are most similar to you. These people have come to Islam willingly, without any compulsion, coercion, or oppression, at a time when others refused to accept Islam and were killed." The next day, the Prophet (ﷺ) asked them, "How did you find the hospitality and honor of your brothers?" They replied, "They proved to be the best brothers. They provided us with soft and warm bedding, gave us the best food, and morning and evening taught us the Book of our Lord and the Sunnah of our Prophet (ﷺ)." The Prophet (ﷺ) was very pleased to hear this. Then he turned to each of us individually, and we presented to the Prophet (ﷺ) what we had learned, and he also taught us. Among us were some who had learned the Tashahhud, Surah Al-Fatiha, one or two other surahs, and some Sunnahs. After that, the Prophet (ﷺ) turned to us and asked, "Do you have provisions?" The people happily ran to their tents, and each man brought a bag of dates and placed it before the Prophet (ﷺ) on a spread. The Prophet (ﷺ) pointed with the stick he held in his blessed hand, which he sometimes chewed on and which was longer than a yard but shorter than two yards, and said, "Do you call this 'Ta'adhus'?" We replied, "Yes." Then he pointed to another bag and said, "Do you call this 'Barni'?" We replied, "Yes." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "This is the best and most beneficial date." When we took our food back, we thought that now we would cultivate this the most, and our desire for it increased so much that most of our gardens began to grow Barni dates. During this, Ashajj said, "O Messenger of Allah! Our area is barren and salty. If we do not drink these beverages, our color will change and our bellies will swell." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Do not drink from Dubba', Hantam, or Naqir, but you should drink from your water skins." Ashajj said, "O Messenger of Allah! May my parents be sacrificed for you, allow us this much," and he indicated with both his palms. The Prophet (ﷺ) indicated with his hands and said, "If I allow you this much, you will drink this much," and he showed the breadth of his hands, meaning that you will exceed this amount. "When any of you becomes intoxicated..."
