Chapter 1
Abu Salamah says that Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to narrate to us this hadith of the Prophet (ﷺ) that there comes an hour on Friday... Then the narrator mentioned the entire hadith and said: I thought, by Allah, if I ever get the chance to be in the presence of Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), I will definitely ask him this question. So I left from there and went to Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him about it. He said: Allah Almighty created Adam (peace be upon him) on Friday, on this day he was sent down to the earth, on this day his soul was taken, and on this day the Day of Judgment will be established. Therefore, this is the last hour. I said: The Prophet (ﷺ) said that this hour is during the time of prayer, and after Asr there is no time for prayer? He said: Do you not know that the Prophet (ﷺ) said that the one who waits for the prayer is considered to be in prayer? I said: Why not, by Allah, that is it.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) that the area from this place, i.e., from Kada to Uhud, is "Haram" which the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) has declared as Haram. Therefore, I can neither cut any tree here nor kill any bird.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) that once in the presence of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ), I said that we find in the Book of Allah that on Friday there comes an hour such that if a Muslim servant attains it while he is praying, whatever he asks from Allah, He will surely grant it. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) indicated with a gesture that hour is very brief. I said, "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has spoken the truth." Abu Salamah says that I asked Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him), "Which hour is that?" He replied, "The last hour of the day." I asked, "Is it not the hour of prayer?" He replied, "Why not? When a Muslim servant, after performing prayer, sits in the same place waiting for the next prayer, he is counted as being in prayer."

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) that when I presented myself before the Noble Prophet (ﷺ), my name was not Abdullah bin Salam; it is the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) who named me Abdullah bin Salam.

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Faith in Allah and His Messenger, striving in the way of Allah, and an accepted Hajj." Then he heard a call in the valley, saying: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "And I bear witness, and I bear witness that no one bears witness to it except that he is free from shirk (associating partners with Allah)." Abd Allah said: And I heard it myself from Harun..

Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, from 'Awf, who narrated to us from Zurara, who said: 'Abdullah ibn Salam said. And Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, who narrated to us from 'Awf, from Zurara, from 'Abdullah ibn Salam, who said: When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived in Medina, the people rushed towards him, and I was among those who rushed. When I looked closely at his face, I knew that his face was not the face of a liar. The first thing I heard him say was: "Spread peace, feed food, maintain ties of kinship, and pray at night while people are asleep, you will enter Paradise in peace."

It is narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I set out towards Mount Tur... Then he mentioned the complete hadith. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that after that I met Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him), so I told him about my sitting with Ka'b and also narrated the hadith I had mentioned regarding the day of Friday, and said that Ka'b said this happens only once in the whole year. Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) said Ka'b made a mistake; this happens every Friday. Ibn Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "By Him in Whose hand is the life of Abdullah bin Salam, I know that hour." I said to him, "O Abdullah! Please tell me about it as well." He said, "It is the last hour of the day of Friday." I said, "But during the prayer, no one can get it (because it is prohibited at that time)." He said, "Did you not hear the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say that whoever waits for the prayer, he is counted as being in prayer until he prays?" I said, "Why not." He said, "Then that is it."

Qais bin ‘Abad says that once I was in the mosque when a man came whose face showed clear signs of humility. He performed two short units of prayer. People began to say that this person is among the people of Paradise. When he left, I also followed him until he entered his house. I too entered his house with him and kept talking to him. When he became familiar with me, I said to him, “When you entered the mosque, people said such and such about you.” He said, “Subhan Allah! A person should not say something he does not know. And I will tell you the reason for this. In the time of Prophethood, I saw a dream which I related to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). In that dream, I saw that I was in a lush green garden, in the middle of which was an iron pillar whose lower end was in the ground and the upper end was in the sky, and on top of it was a rope. Someone said to me, ‘Climb up this.’ I said, ‘Now climb up.’ I began to climb it until I grabbed the rope. He said to me, ‘Hold this rope firmly.’ When I woke up, it felt as if that rope was still in my hand. Then I went to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and related this dream. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, ‘That garden was Islam, the pillar was Islam, and that rope was the strong rope, which means you are a Muslim and will remain steadfast upon it until death.’ Qais says, then it became known that he was Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were discussing among ourselves as to who among us would go to the service of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) and ask which deed is the most beloved to Allah. But due to the awe of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ), none of us stood up. So the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) sent a messenger and gathered all of us one by one in his presence, and recited Surah As-Saff completely before us.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were discussing among ourselves as to which one of us would go to the service of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) and ask: "Which deed is the most beloved to Allah?" But due to the awe of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ), none of us stood up. So the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) sent a messenger and gathered all of us to him one by one, and recited the entire Surah As-Saff before us. This recitation was continued by all the narrators to their students.

Narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I set out towards Mount Tur. On the way, I met Ka'b Ahbar (may Allah have mercy on him). I sat with him; he began telling me things from the Torah, and I began telling him things from the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). During this, I also narrated this hadith to him: The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, "The best day on which the sun rises is Friday. On this day, Adam (peace be upon him) was created, on this day he was sent down from Paradise, on this day his repentance was accepted, on this day he died, and on this day the Day of Judgment will be established. Every creature on earth becomes fearful on Friday at sunrise, fearing that perhaps today is the Day of Judgment, except for jinn and humans. And on this day, there is a moment which, if a Muslim servant finds while praying and asks Allah for anything, Allah will surely grant it." Ka'b (may Allah have mercy on him) said, "This happens once a year." I said, "No, it happens every Friday." Upon this, Ka'b opened the Torah and read it, then said, "The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) has spoken the truth." Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) says that after this, I met Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him), so I told him about my sitting with Ka'b and also narrated the hadith I had mentioned regarding Friday, and said that Ka'b said it happens once a year. I said that then Ka'b read the Torah and said, "No, it happens every Friday." Ibn Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Do you know which moment that is?" I said, "No, I am ruined! Please tell me." He said, "It is between Asr and Maghrib." I said, "How can that be, when there is no prayer at that time?" He said, "Have you not heard the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) say that whoever waits for prayer is counted as being in prayer until he prays?" I said, "Why not!" He said, "Then that is it."
