Hadith of Dhi Mukhammar, a man from the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him)

حَدِيثُ ذِي مِخْمَرٍ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ٢٣٤٧٧ - حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، عَنْ حَسَّانَ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنْ ذِي مِخْمَرٍ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " سَيُصَالِحُكُمُ الرُّومُ صُلْحًا آمِنًا، ثُمَّ تَغْزُونَ وَهُمْ عَدُوًّا (١) فَتُنْصَرُونَ، وَتَسْلَمُونَ وَتَغْنَمُونَ، ثُمَّ تَنْصَرِفُونَ حَتَّى تَنْزِلُوا بِمَرْجٍ ذِي تُلُولٍ، فَيَرْفَعُ رَجُلٌ مِنَ النَّصْرَانِيَّةِ صَلِيبًا فَيَقُولُ: غَلَبَ الصَّلِيبُ، فَيَغْضَبُ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ، فَيَقُومُ إِلَيْهِ فَيَدُقُّهُ فَعِنْدَ ذَلِكَ يَغْدُرُ الرُّومُ، وَيَجْتَمِعُونَ لِلْمَلْحَمَةِ "، وَقَالَ رَوْحٌ مَرَّةً: " وَتَسْلَمُونَ وَتَغْنَمُونَ، وَتُقِيمُونَ ثُمَّ تَنْصَرِفُونَ (٢)،

It is narrated from Dhu Makhmar (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) say: Soon the Romans will make a peace treaty of security with you, then you and they will together fight a common enemy. You will be victorious in that battle and will return safe and sound with spoils of war. When you reach a place called "Dhi Tulul," a Christian will raise a cross and say, "The cross has prevailed." At this, a Muslim will become angry and will stand up to respond to him. Right there, a Roman will respond, and from there the Romans will break the treaty and begin preparing for war.

حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُجَالِدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي الشَّعْبِيُّ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ قُلْتُ: الْجَزُورُ وَالْبَقَرَةُ تُجْزِئُ عَنْ سَبْعَةٍ؟ قَالَ: يَا شَعْبِيُّ وَلَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَنْفُسٍ؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: إِنَّ أَصْحَابَ مُحَمَّدٍ يَزْعُمُونَ، " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَنَّ الْجَزُورَ وَالْبَقَرَةَ عَنْ سَبْعَةٍ "، قَالَ: فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ لِرَجُلٍ: أَكَذَاكَ يَا فُلَانُ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: مَا، ، شَعَرْتَ بِهَذَا (١)، ،

Imam Sha’bi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I once asked Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), “Can one camel and one cow suffice for seven people?” He replied, “Sha’bi! Does it have seven lives?” I said, “Other companions (may Allah be pleased with them) say that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) appointed one cow and one camel for seven people.” Upon this, Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) asked a man, “O so-and-so! Is this the case?” He said, “Yes!” So Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, “I did not know about this.”
