Hadith of Abu Zayd Amr ibn Akhtab (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ أَبِي زَيْدٍ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَخْطَبَ، ٢٢٨٨١ - حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ، حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو نَهِيكٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو زَيْدٍ عَمْرُو بْنُ أَخْطَبَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ قَالَ: اسْتَسْقَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَاءً، فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِقَدَحٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ، فَكَانَتْ فِيهِ شَعَرَةٌ فَأَخَذْتُهَا فَقَالَ: " اللهُمَّ جَمِّلْهُ " قَالَ: فَرَأَيْتُهُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَرْبَعٍ وَتِسْعِينَ لَيْسَ فِي لِحْيَتِهِ شَعَرَةٌ بَيْضَاءُ (١)،

It is narrated from Abu Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) asked for water. I brought water in a bowl, and there was a hair in it which I removed. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said, "O Allah! Grant him beauty." The narrator says that I saw Abu Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) at the age of 94, and there was not a single white hair in his beard.

حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ، حَدَّثَنِي حُسَيْنُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا نَهِيكٍ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا زَيْدٍ عَمْرَو بْنَ أَخْطَبَ قَالَ: " رَأَيْتُ الْخَاتَمَ الَّذِي بَيْنَ كَتِفَيْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَرَجُلٍ، قَالَ بِإِصْبَعِهِ الثَّالِثَةِ (٢) هَكَذَا،، ، فَمَسَحْتُهُ بِيَدِي " (١)،

It is narrated from Abu Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that I saw the Seal of Prophethood between the shoulders of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ), and I also touched it with my hand.

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ شَقِيقٍ، حَدَّثَنِي الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نَهِيكٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَخْطَبَ قَالَ: اسْتَسْقَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِإِنَاءٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ وَفِيهِ شَعْرَةٌ فَرَفَعْتُهَا، ثُمَّ نَاوَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ: " اللهُمَّ جَمِّلْهُ " قَالَ: فَرَأَيْتُهُ بَعْدَ ثَلَاثٍ وَتِسْعِينَ سَنَةً وَمَا فِي رَأْسِهِ وَلِحْيَتِهِ شَعَرَةٌ بَيْضَاءُ (٢)، ،

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا تَمِيمُ بْنُ حُوَيَصٍ (١) قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا زَيْدٍ يَقُولُ: " قَاتَلْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ مَرَّةً " (٢) قَالَ شُعْبَةُ: وَهُوَ جَدُّ عَزْرَةَ هَذَا،

It is narrated from Abu Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that I participated in thirteen battles along with the Noble Prophet (ﷺ).

حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ نُصَيْرٍ الْفَسَاطِيطِيُّ، قَالَ: وَلَمْ أَسْمَعْ مِنْهُ غَيْرَهُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا قُرَّةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو زَيْدِ بْنُ أَخْطَبَ قَالَ: قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " جَمَّلَكَ اللهُ "، ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ: وَكَانَ رَجُلًا جَمِيلًا حَسَنَ الشَّمْطِ (١)،

It is narrated from Abu Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said to me: "O Allah! Grant you beauty." The narrator says that Abu Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) was a handsome and beautiful man with excellent hair.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ، قَالَ خَالِدٌ: أَحْسِبُهُ عَمْرَو بْنَ بُجْدَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي زَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ: مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ دُورِ الْأَنْصَارِ فَوَجَدَ قُتَارًا فَقَالَ: " مَنْ صَنَعَ هَذَا؟ "، أَوْ كَمَا قَالَ: شَكَّ إِسْمَاعِيلُ، فَخَرَجَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، هَذَا يَوْمٌ اللَّحْمُ فِيهِ كَرِيهٌ، وَإِنِّي عَجَّلْتُ نَسِيكَتِي قَالَ: " فَأَعِدْ ". قَالَ: وَاللهِ مَا عِنْدِي إِلَّا جَذَعٌ أَوْ حَمَلٌ مِنَ الضَّأْنِ. قَالَ: " فَاذْبَحْهُ، وَلَا يُجْزِئُ جَذَعٌ عَنْ أَحَدٍ بَعْدَكَ " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Abu Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that (on the day of Eid al-Adha) the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) was passing between our houses when he sensed the aroma of roasted meat. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "Who has slaughtered an animal?" One man among us came forward and said, "O Messenger of Allah! On this day, food is a necessity, so I slaughtered my animal so that I could eat myself and also feed my neighbors." The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Offer the sacrifice again." He said, "By Him besides whom there is no deity, I have only a six-month-old kid or a pregnant goat." He repeated this sentence three times. Then the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Slaughter that one, but after you, it will not suffice for anyone else."

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو قِلَابَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ بُجْدَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي زَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ: مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِ دِيَارِنَا فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ (١)،

Abd al-Samad narrated to us, my father narrated to us, Khalid al-Hadha’ narrated to us, Abu Qilabah narrated from Amr ibn Bujdan from Abu Zayd al-Ansari who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed among the midst of our dwellings, and he mentioned its meaning.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَزْرَةُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عِلْبَاءُ بْنُ أَحْمَرَ الْيَشْكُرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ قَالَ: " صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ، ثُمَّ صَعِدَ الْمِنْبَرَ فَخَطَبَنَا حَتَّى حَضَرَتِ الظُّهْرُ، ثُمَّ نَزَلَ فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ، ثُمَّ صَعِدَ الْمِنْبَرَ فَخَطَبَنَا حَتَّى حَضَرَتِ الْعَصْرُ، ثُمَّ نَزَلَ فَصَلَّى الْعَصْرَ، فَصَعِدَ الْمِنْبَرَ فَخَطَبَنَا حَتَّى غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ، فَحَدَّثَنَا بِمَا كَانَ وَمَا هُوَ كَائِنٌ " فَأَعْلَمُنَا أَحْفَظُنَا (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Abu Zaid Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he led us in the Fajr prayer and then ascended the pulpit and delivered a sermon. Then he descended and led the Asr prayer, and again sat on the pulpit and delivered a sermon until sunset. During this time, he mentioned past events and all future prophecies. Among us, the most knowledgeable was the one who remembered that sermon the most.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَزْرَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا عِلْبَاءُ بْنُ أَحْمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زَيْدٍ قَالَ: قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " يَا أَبَا زَيْدٍ ادْنُ مِنِّي، وَامْسَحْ ظَهْرِي ". وَكَشَفَ ظَهْرَهُ، فَمَسَحْتُ ظَهْرَهُ، وَجَعَلْتُ الْخَاتَمَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِي. قَالَ: فَغَمَزْتُهَا. قَالَ فَقِيلَ: وَمَا الْخَاتَمُ؟ قَالَ: شَعَرٌ مُجْتَمِعٌ عَلَى كَتِفِهِ (١)،

Abu Zaid Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, "Come near to me." I came near, and he said, "Put your hand and touch my back." So I put my hand inside the shirt of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) and passed my hand over his blessed back, and the Seal of Prophethood came between my two fingers, which was a cluster of hair.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَزْرَةُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عِلْبَاءُ بْنُ أَحْمَرَ،، ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زَيْدٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَسَحَ وَجْهَهُ وَدَعَا لَهُ بِالْجَمَالِ " وَأَخْبَرَنِي غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ أَنَّهُ بَلَغَ بِضْعًا وَمِائَةَ سَنَةٍ أَسْوَدَ الرَّأْسِ وَاللِّحْيَةِ إِلَّا نُبَذُ شَعَرٍ بِيضٌ فِي رَأْسِهِ (١)،

It is narrated from Abu Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) passed his blessed hand over his face and prayed: "O Allah, grant him beauty and grace, and grant permanence to his beauty." The narrator says that Abu Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) lived to be over a hundred years old, but there were only a few white hairs in his head and beard.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي زَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا " أَعْتَقَ سِتَّةَ أَعْبُدٍ عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ لَيْسَ لَهُ مَالٌ غَيْرَهُمْ، فَأَقْرَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَعْتَقَ اثْنَيْنِ، وَأَرَقَّ أَرْبَعَةً " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Abu Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man, at the time of his death, freed all six of his slaves, and he had no wealth other than them. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) called those slaves, divided them into three groups, and then drew lots among them. He freed the two whose names were drawn, and left the remaining four as slaves.

حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو قِلَابَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي زَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ (١) ، مِثْلَ حَدِيثِ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَعْتَقَ سِتَّةَ مَمْلُوكِينَ لَهُ وَقَالَ فِيهِ: فَأَقْرَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ، ،

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
