حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا رَافِعٍ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " أَنَّ زَيْنَبَ كَانَ اسْمُهَا بَرَّةَ، فَقِيلَ: تُزَكِّي نَفْسَهَا، فَسَمَّاهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَيْنَبَ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the honorable wife of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ), Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her), was previously named Barrah. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) changed her name to "Zainab."
