Musnad Ahmad Hadith 8793

It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man presented himself in the court of the Messenger and said, "O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), a man intends to perform jihad in the way of Allah, but his purpose is to acquire worldly goods?" The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "He will not receive any reward." This was very burdensome for the people. They said to that man, "Ask the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) about the matter again; perhaps the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) did not understand the question well." He asked the same question again, and the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) gave the same answer. He asked the same question a third time, but the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) again gave the same answer.
