English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: "O Abdullah bin Amr, in how long do you complete the recitation of the Qur'an?" I replied, "In one day and night." The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said to me: "Sleep as well, perform prayer as well, and complete the recitation of the Qur'an once every month." I kept requesting the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) to reduce it further, and the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) kept reducing it, until the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Complete the recitation of the Qur'an once every seven nights." (My father says that here I missed a word which I could not understand.) Then I said that I always fast and never leave it. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said to me: "Fast as well and leave it as well, and fast three days in every month." I kept requesting the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) to reduce it further, and the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) kept reducing it, until the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Fast in the way which is most beloved to Allah, and it is the way of Dawud (peace be upon him), that is, fast one day and leave one day." Later, Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said that now accepting the concession of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) is more beloved to me than red camels.
