حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ وَهُوَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْحَفَرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّ مِنَ الشَّجَرِ شَجَرَةً لَا يَسْقُطُ وَرَقُهَا، وَإِنَّهَا مَثَلُ الرَّجُلِ الْمُسْلِمِ "، قَالَ: فَوَقَعَ النَّاسُ، ، فِي شَجَرِ الْبَوَادِي، وَكُنْتُ مِنْ أَحْدَثِ النَّاسِ (١) ، وَوَقَعَ فِي صَدْرِي أَنَّهَا النَّخْلَةُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ " قَالَ: فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِأَبِي فَقَالَ: " لَأَنْ تَكُونَ قُلْتَهُ، أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ كَذَا وَكَذَا " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: "There is a tree whose leaves do not fall, and it is like a Muslim. Tell me, which tree is that?" People began to think of various trees in the forest. In my heart, I thought it could be the date palm tree. After a little while, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) himself said: "It is the date palm tree." I mentioned this to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: "At that moment, your speaking up would have been more beloved to me than such and such thing."
