حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أُمَيَّةَ (٣) بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ: نَجِدُ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ، وَصَلَاةَ الْحَضَرِ، فِي الْقُرْآنِ، وَلَا نَجِدُ صَلَاةَ الْمُسَافِرِ؟ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: " بَعَثَ اللهُ نَبِيَّهُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ أَجْفَى النَّاسِ، فَنَصْنَعُ كَمَا صَنَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " (٤)، ،
Translation
English translation
Abdur Rahman bin Umayyah asked Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that in the Noble Qur'an we find mention of the prayer of fear and the prayer in residence, but we do not find mention of the prayer during travel (even then, why is the prayer shortened during travel?) He replied: "When Allah Almighty sent the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), we knew nothing; we only do as we saw him doing."
