حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ، حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفٌ، عَنْ أَبِي جَنَابٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: كَانَ جِذْعُ نَخْلَةٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ يُسْنِدُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ظَهْرَهُ إِلَيْهِ إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ جُمُعَةٍ، أَوْ حَدَثَ أَمْرٌ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُكَلِّمَ النَّاسَ، فَقَالُوا: أَلَا نَجْعَلُ لَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ شَيْئًا كَقَدْرِ قِيَامِكَ؟ قَالَ: " لَا عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تَفْعَلُوا ". فَصَنَعُوا لَهُ (١) مِنْبَرًا ثَلَاثَ مَرَاقِي (٢) ، قَالَ: فَجَلَسَ عَلَيْهِ، قَالَ: فَخَارَ الْجِذْعُ كَمَا تَخُورُ الْبَقَرَةُ (٣) جَزَعًا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَالْتَزَمَهُ وَمَسَحَهُ حَتَّى سَكَنَ (٤)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that there was a date-palm trunk in the Prophet’s Mosque, against which the Prophet (ﷺ) used to lean while addressing the people on Fridays or on some important occasion. One day, some people said: O Messenger of Allah! Should we not make something for you according to your stature? The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “There is no harm in doing so.” So they made a pulpit of three steps for the Prophet (ﷺ), and he sat upon it. Seeing this, the trunk began to weep like a cow weeps, and its weeping was due to the grief of separation from the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) embraced it to his chest and stroked it with his hand until it became calm.
