حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ، حَدَّثَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ الْكَلْبِيِّ، مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ كَانَ يَقُولُ: " مَا كُنَّا نَدْعُوهُ إِلَّا زَيْدَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ حَتَّى نَزَلَ الْقُرْآنُ: {ادْعُوهُمْ لِآبَائِهِمْ هُوَ أَقْسَطُ عِنْدَ اللهِ} [الأحزاب: ٥] " (٣)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that we used to call Zaid bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him) as Zaid bin Muhammad, until this verse of the Noble Qur'an was revealed: "Call them by (the names of) their fathers; that is more just in the sight of Allah."
