حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، أَخْبَرَنِي نَافِعٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " مَنْ جَرَّ ثَوْبَهُ (٢) مِنَ الْخُيَلَاءِ لَمْ يَنْظُرِ اللهُ إِلَيْهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " قَالَ: وَأَخْبَرَنِي سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ، أَنَّ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ ذَكَرَتِ النِّسَاءَ فَقَالَ: " تُرْخِي شِبْرًا "، قَالَتْ: إِذَنْ تَنْكَشِفَ، (٣) قَالَ " فَذِرَاعًا لَا يَزِدْنَ عَلَيْهِ " (٤)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever drags his clothes on the ground out of arrogance, Allah will not look at him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection." Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) (according to Sulaiman, may Allah have mercy on him) asked: "What about us? (Because women's clothes are long and usually touch the ankles.)" He said: "Raise your garment by a handspan." She again asked: "But then our feet will become visible?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Do not add more than a handspan (that much is excused)."
