حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، وَإِسْحَاقُ يَعْنِي الْأَزْرَقَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، (٢) عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " إِنَّا أُمَّةٌ أُمِّيَّةٌ لَا نَكْتُبُ، وَلَا نَحْسُبُ، الشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا "، حَتَّى ذَكَرَ تِسْعًا وَعِشْرِينَ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ: وَطَبَّقَ يَدَيْهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، وَحَبَسَ إِبْهَامَهُ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ (٣)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "We are an unlettered nation; we do not know calculation. Sometimes the month is like this, like this, and like this." The third time, the Prophet (ﷺ) folded his thumb, meaning twenty-nine (days).
