Translation
English translation
Nafi’ (may Allah have mercy on him), who was the freed slave of Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), says that once Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) was walking along a road when he heard the sound of a shepherd singing and playing music. He put his fingers in his ears and left that path, and kept asking me at intervals, “Nafi’! Can you still hear the sound?” If I replied “yes,” he would keep walking, until when I said “no,” he removed his hands from his ears and put his mount back on the path. He then said, “I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) do the same when he heard the sound of a shepherd singing and playing music.”
