Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ، سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَ: كَانَتْ قُرَيْشٌ تَحْلِفُ بِآبَائِهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَنْ كَانَ حَالِفًا فَلْيَحْلِفْ بِاللهِ، لَا تَحْلِفُوا بِآبَائِكُمْ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the people of Quraysh used to swear oaths by the names of their forefathers. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Whoever wants to swear an oath, let him swear by the name of Allah; do not swear oaths by the names of your forefathers."
