Musnad Ahmad Hadith 4595

Nafi’ (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) once set out with the intention of performing ‘Umrah. People informed him that there was unrest in Makkah at that time. He said: “I will enter into the state of Ihram for ‘Umrah. If any obstacle comes before me, I will do what the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) did.” Then, as he continued on his way and reached the place of Bida’, he said: “The matter of Hajj and ‘Umrah is the same, so I make you witnesses that I have also made the intention for Hajj along with ‘Umrah.” Thus, he reached Makkah, performed one Tawaf by making seven circuits, and performed seven circuits of Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, and said: “I saw the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) doing the same, that when he reached the place of Qudayd, he bought a sacrificial animal and took it along with him.”
