حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَدْرَكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عُمَرَ، وَهُوَ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: وَأَبِي، وَأَبِي فَقَالَ: " إِنَّ اللهَ يَنْهَاكُمْ أَنْ تَحْلِفُوا، ، بِآبَائِكُمْ، فَمَنْ كَانَ حَالِفًا، فَلْيَحْلِفْ بِاللهِ، وَإِلَّا فَلْيَصْمُتْ " (١)،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) heard Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) swearing by his father. He said: "Allah forbids you from swearing oaths by your forefathers. Therefore, when any one of you wants to swear an oath, let him swear by the name of Allah, otherwise let him remain silent."
