حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ، عَنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ، قَالَ: كَتَبَ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مَرْوَانَ إِلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنِ ارْفَعْ إِلَيَّ حَاجَتَكَ، قَالَ: فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، كَانَ يَقُولُ: " إِنَّ الْيَدَ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ، وَلَسْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ شَيْئًا، وَلَا أَرُدُّ رِزْقًا رَزَقَنِيهِ اللهُ مِنْكَ " (١)، ،
Translation
English translation
Qaqa’ bin Hakim says that once Abdul Aziz bin Marwan wrote a letter to Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) saying, “Present your needs before me (so that I may order them to be fulfilled).” Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied to this letter, writing: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say: ‘The upper hand is better than the lower hand, and begin (giving) with those whose maintenance is your responsibility.’ I do not ask you for anything, nor will I reject the sustenance that Allah grants me from your side.”
