حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْمُخَارِقِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَحْمَسِيِّ، عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ: لَقَدْ شَهِدْتُ مِنَ الْمِقْدَادِ مَشْهَدًا لَأَنْ أَكُونَ أَنَا صَاحِبَهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِمَّا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ، قَالَ: أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَكَانَ رَجُلًا فَارِسًا، قَالَ: فَقَالَ: أَبْشِرْ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، وَاللهِ لَا نَقُولُ لَكَ كَمَا قَالَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ لِمُوسَى صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: {اذْهَبْ أَنْتَ وَرَبُّكَ فَقَاتِلَا إِنَّا هَاهُنَا قَاعِدُونَ} ، وَلَكِنْ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ لَنَكُونَنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ، وَعَنْ يَمِينِكَ، وَعَنْ شِمَالِكَ، وَمِنْ خَلْفِكَ حَتَّى يَفْتَحَ اللهُ عَلَيْكَ (١)،
Translation
English translation
Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I was present with Miqdad bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) — and being his companion was more beloved to me than all other things. He went to the service of the Prophet (ﷺ) and, after cursing the polytheists, said: O Messenger of Allah! By Allah! We will not say as the Children of Israel said to Musa (peace be upon him): “You and your Lord go and fight, we are sitting here.” Rather, we will fight on your right, your left, in front of you, and behind you, until Allah grants you victory.
